I have been told that the aluminuim heads used on the duramax diesel can melt down or crack i think it would take a ton of effort to do it but if anyone knows anything it would help because im looking to buy a 07 2500 HD classic duramax i was pleased with the test drive and being thrown back in my seat!!!

LMM's arent even out yet. There may be a handful on dealer's lots.

I've never heard of anyone melting heads on any duramax.

Where do you get your information from?

Heads do not burst into flames.

If anything, its probably caused by the exhaust components.

Anything bad you've ever heard about the Duramax's aluminum heads was a rumor started by disgruntle Ford and Dodge owners.

It would take ALOT of heat to melt an aluminum head. Aluminum has a lower melting point than cast iron, but at the same time a much higher thermal conductivity. The higher thermal conductivity means it can conduct the heat to the coolant and outside air much faster than cast iron. Why do you think radiators are made out of aluminum and not cast iron??

Frankly, I dont think its possible to get a duramax engine hot enough cause a head to melt, even if you ran it without engine coolant. I think the engine would seize up before the required temp was reached.

heard the same rumors-:t jealousy or envy I think- or its just plain stupidity-last guy I heard it from was a Ford guy that looked like he was straight from the movie Deliverance-the truth is, if you throw like a thousand horse power and tons of drugs at a stock set-up you will have some luck melting things
