: My turn for injectors

Well, I had my truck at the dealer today for a rough idle problem, The diagnosis is that my injectors are returning to much fuel, so my dealer has 8 new injectors on order. The service writer said it should be ok to drive, on thursday im leaving for a road trip, should I drive it? I know when the injectors are dumping fuel, they can fill up the crankcase, is it possible for something similer to happen with the injectors returning too much fuel.

Go for it cause the dealer said it was ok. when you get back close to home say 100 mi, stop and dump a gal or so of diesel into crankcase then drive hell out of it rest of way home, In other words blow it up and get a new enginehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

Now why would you want to do that? I sure wouldn't. And has been documented many times before, diesel in the crank doesn't seem to hurt. Read the post by gardenerteam.

On the flip side, there are a few who have reported lower oil pressure after injector R&R.

Lower oil pressure is a sign of increased bearing clearances.Edited by: Bronco

How bad ? I mean the injectors will vary unless one just takes a dump that's when you see Knocking and Fuel in the crankcase.

I have seen two of mine get up into high 5's ,that is when they get noisy.A mile down the road,2's,go figure.

I have seen my truck struggle to maintain a idle to loping nearly 1000 rpm's.I feel I have two upcoming issues FRPCV and Injectors.Problem is it's so unpredictable and sporadic(?) (this maybe the result of additives)that I'm going to have to do some documentation in order to get it repaired under warranty.

I'd say get some information from the dealer no one wants to get stuck on the side of the road or have warranty work done at some unknown dealer on the road if avoidable.

Sucks but good luck Rocky.

Mac,

Interesting… http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif Are you seeing a correlation between injector-fuel knock and injector balance (using a Predator or similar)?

Luckily my oil pressure came back after injector replacement. I was lucky to have only driven the truck less than 100 miles when they failed.

I am having the same problem Mackin is having. Sometimes it will knock loud and sometimes it won't. I also have the idle surge problem. The dealer replaced one injector in January and it sounded great the first day I drove it, quieter than ever. Now it sounds like a Powerstroke when knocking.

Thats my #1 concern, is losing injectors down in southern colorado 300 miles away from home, but as the dealer stated, the injectors have not failed, they are concerned about the return rates, so they are going to replace them. Ive checked my oil "wick test" a couple times since yesterday and ive not seen any evidence of fuel. Im glad that I found a dealer now who understands these trucks, the dealer I purchased the truck from seemed to be at a loss with the duramax.

That is correct.

When I have heard them pounding, quite loud mind you, I have reached back plugged in the Pred and sure enough they (two) are in the -5 range.Again it isn't consistent.I really need to bite the bullet and get it done. The FRPCV is another story. I'm still trying to locate one reasonable and do it myself with my Personal Tech Gearhead ,I did put him on notice today. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif To me going to the dealer is like having to get a prostate check, not fun.

I would luv to also do injectors with him but I'm still hesitant do to I haven't seen any big gains to warrant the money for the upgrade, yet.

Mac,

Thanks for the info.. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif I also have some knock when the engine is cold but it quiets down as soon as it starts to warm up.. It's been this way since new but it does seem to be louder than it used to be... also notice a bit more diesel rattle when warm too... I should bite the bullet and get a Predator to keep tabs on things...
