Chevy Lover 94

I have a 94 Chevy Silverado with a 350 turbo diesel engine. When it is hot outside it will start just fine. But when it gets even a little cool I have to leave it pluged for a while before it will start. I had the glow plugs checked and they said it they were fine. So I don't know what it is. Also every now and then. While I am driving it, it will just shut off. All I have to do is stop, put it in park, then restart it and it will do fine. If anyone has any suggestions about this I would appreciate it if you would let me know thanks.

A locked up lift pump and failing PMD will turn off the truck like you turned the key off.

Got smoke on startup? White?
Open petcock on thermostat housing, got fuel while engine is running?
*Maybe* PMD, or could be ignition switch too, (NOT the key switch) some model years had bad switch that would cause a shut down like that. Don't remember which years that applied to, but may be your vintage.

Steiner I knew about the 5.7 (350) but am pretty sure it was'nt available as engine for the 94 which was reason for my question plus he said 350 turbo another oddity most were N/A in trucks, if in fact a 5.7 is the engine he is having problems with; that takes us down a whole different train of thought on how to troubleshoot. This is why I like to see info detailed sigs, so we know what equipment is on the ride to better assist in troubleshooting. Edited by: Turbine Doc

It sounds like bad connections on the passenger battery terminals. The ignition wire ties in here and it powers the ECM and glow plugs. A lot of corrosion or a loose connector could cause this.
