my truck has the smell of old cooking oil coming out of the crankcase breather. Has anyone else had this happen? It also makes the engine oil smell bad too.

Are you running biodiesel? If so, have you found fuel in with your motor oil?

Certain oils can do this, I wanna say Rotella is famous for it?

My kids said something to me ahwile ago about that smell and lately I have been noticing it alot more my oil% is down to 43% left. I notice it alot more when the wind is in my face and after I've put the hammer down
I'm running the Rotella also...
Is this common?

I agree that certain oils can cause a smell from the breather. There were a number of discussions on this in the past. Probably has something to do with the additive package. Possibly Valvoline has modified the additives?

Great!! I just ordered a case for when I change it next. I was running Mobil 1 syn. but read on here that even though it says "turbo charged diesel the API is different. Are you guys running the Rotella syn. or regular and getting the smell?

Shell Rotella T is a very good oil. I had used it for years and had that distinct smell for about 100- 200 miles after an oil change.

I've been using Rotella Dino Oil since I got my truck (nov 03) and have never smelt anything like old cooking grease.

on my truck, it smells like something crawled up on the exhaust manifold and died, but it doesn't do it all the time, I wonder if high sulfer fuel would do this?
