So is 5 disk the answer to the high hp problem?

5 disc is no stronger than 3 disc.

I've eaten 2 triple's... The first just got eaten, the second was probablly more my fault than the TC's. So far the 5 disk has been good to me, but I dont doubt what Mike says one bit!

Mike, what is killing these?

Too high TQ/HP or
high TQ/HP and brake stands to launch?

All of the above, but I think the brake torquing off the line is the biggest killer. Remember that 3 or 4 years ago 400 hp was big. Now 500 hp is the norm and we are seeing well over 600+ hp. Us poor trans guys are playing catch up with the monsters out there. All we can do is burn the midnight oil looking for more strength. :D

Your DTT never lasted long enough between failures to find out. ):h

I fried a single disk DTT in a Dodge on my 11.86 at 114.1 pass.

I call bullchit on that one. Brandon went thru 5 suncoast transmissions and an engine at 70K miles?

That's absolutely laughable!

I went thru 4 DTT transmissions and had over 160K on my truck.

That's fact, not fuzzy math!:p:

Besides DTT, who else makes a single disc? Is the triple even worth it for us guys that will probably never see 450 rwhp?

$1,300 for a converter is pretty steep if your not a hard core drag racer or sledder.

That's fast! I know in my experience that I didn't cook mine. Doesn't mean there can't be failures, but mine never let me down.

2 pieces of paper together would hold 1000rwhp when you are running 500psi of line pressure:p:

I call B/S on that one Juice. You were never told what really went on by your buddies. You were on number 6 or 7, 2 years ago. :stirthepo

Spin any way you want, on the new ride, both Joe(Suncoast) and Bill (DTT) suggested that I go with a manual transmission for my type of (ab)use this time.

Joe figured I would burn a Suncoast up in 18 months with hotshot towing and racing, and Bill felt much the same way.

So I have a manual transmission now, and am quite happy with it's performance, even if i am giving away straight line performance over 1320 feet.

My single was toast too. Was wondering why the tranny was getting really hot when I got on it. Steven yours was a disaster:eek:

I wish you luck w that Juice but I have a friend w a twin turbo Cummins/man trans who has his trans out more than his engine oil drain plug.

I thought you went thru transmissions much faster than that....

NV5600 or the G56?

Either way, they all have their weaknesses. IMHO you can build an Auto stronger than a manual, but for the long hard pulls, I am taking a chance with the auto.

If it was the NV4500 they have their fair share of issues.

Depends on wether or not it spits the input shaft:o: Those and P2's cause irreperable damage in the worst case scenario.

Well it lasted me a over year and a half and 60,000+ miles can't complain after what I did to it, guess we will see was a SCIV w/ 1057 can take:D

No idea, he is always tearing it up though. He had a trans built by a guy that has alot of Dodge exp. just lately so we will see how that holds. This guy actually claims that the trans is too tight in factory form. Only a few holeshots and sledpulls will tell the story.
