I have a scorched cylinder liner on my 4bd1t and I want to remove it in place.....I need a removal/installation tool....has anyone found one that could make a recommendation I see that there is a tool from OTC but I don't see the correct size plates though I may be wrong. I don't have alot of money to take to shop and I think that installing a clinder kit is doable with the right tool....I bought a new head that I picked up fairly cheap to go along with the liner as I am sure it happened from being overheated. There is only 128k on motor.

Also, does anyone know of any other forum for w4000 series or NPR trucks???

Not to discourage you but if you have never done a in frame overhaul before this might be a job best suited for a repair shop. Along with liner pullers and installers you need a cylinder liner protrusion gauge, if the counter bore needs machined you will also need a counter bore cutter.

They do make universal cylinder liner pullers. The one I have is hydraulic and is a 3 jaw type puller. Cost me a little over $3,500 for the set.

If you only need the puller and installer plates and already have a liner puller you can just order the plates from your GM dealer or Isuzu dealer.

an OTC tool I found is 425 and they do sell blank plates you have to have someone machine...as to measuring the liner projection the GM manual states that a straightedge and feeler gauge is appropriate though I have seen dial indicators...in fact I do have a dial indicator for injector tuning of 8.2L detroit that could be rigged to work.

I just don't want to pay the shop because of lack of money and wanting to get some experience as to knowing "how to" for my own personal future....I realize that it could potentially backfire but on the other hand I purchased the truck for real low price.

The tool you have must be for wet type cyliders??? the manual doesn't show jaws but rather a threaded shaft with plates used for removal, guide and installation. I am almost tempted to just order the plates and just make the puller with a threaded shaft....

I was hoping someone may have had experience doing that all ready that could advise.

thanks
