: 20 mpg @75 mph......possibility or dreaming????
floridamisfit 02-25-2007, 07:32 AM My 07 CC 4x4 has 5200 miles on it. My overall average has been 18.1 mpg since I bought it. At 72 mph I get just below 18 mpg calculated. With just a tuner is it possible to see 20 mpg @ 75 mph???? I really dont want exhaust. I had been leaning toward and edge evo but nobody seems to be getting mileage increases with it. I may wind up with a predator. it is my daily driver and I have a 6500 pound toy hauler so Id like to have an exhaust temp gauge. Any thoughts or suggestions????
C.A.P 02-25-2007, 09:37 AM is that actual figured with the amount of gallons in the tank with the distance traveled ? If it is and you are getting that good of mileage , you better go out and get a case of beer with the extra money your saving on gas and celebrate as its as good as I have heard from a LBZ
LBZ_DUALLY 02-25-2007, 09:56 AM i have got 20.5 pulling a 16 foot car trailer at 75mph, with my bd power pup set on tow tune
floridamisfit 02-25-2007, 10:15 AM that is calculated. I drive it very easy. I had one tank that was rural highway, mostly 55 with about 75 miles at 70 and I got 22......
LBZ_DUALLY 02-25-2007, 10:45 AM I think the best i have ever seen was 22 calculated empty
CntrlCalDmax 02-25-2007, 11:05 AM i have got 20.5 pulling a 16 foot car trailer at 75mph, with my bd power pup set on tow tune
DRW, 75 mph, towing, 20.5 mpg. Not a chance!
LBZ_DUALLY 02-25-2007, 11:21 AM no really 20.5 i wouldnt really call a 16 foot car trailer towing, i get 14 towing my 36 foot goose neck loaded at 12k at 75mph on I25 from denver co to walsenburg co, just got back yesterday and calculated it.
DRW, 75 mph, towing, 20.5 mpg. Not a chance!
:exactly:

youre gettin good mileage, but you have a few thousand in mods.........Im wondering if I can do it with a programmer alone.....
Unit453 02-25-2007, 12:36 PM How some of these guys are getting high teens towing 5th wheels, I have no clue. I'm only getting 11-12 empty.
I'm starting to think that something isnt right.
The Predator is a great tuner. There's vendors here on this forum who well them for around $300 shipped.
floridamisfit 02-25-2007, 12:39 PM if I go predator, then I really should go with an exhaust gauge too........from what I saw they run around $200........is that right???
Unit453 02-25-2007, 01:08 PM What Predators or EGT guages?
It would never hurt to get some guages installed, especially if you're towing.
Our vendors here pretty much all sell guage packages at very fair prices. Take a gander through and see what you can find when you get the chance. I'm actually right behind you. I need a set also.
duramaxin14 02-25-2007, 01:28 PM The Predator is a good programmer we have one on are f-450 company truck not ours though it does good on the 7.3 i beilve u may like the edge juice w/*** for your lbz it has all your digital gauges and when u want a little extra power its all in the push of a button u can get good fuel miliage with it and smoke them gt mustange when u fill like it all in all the edge is a good box be prepared to pay a little bite of money u can find one on ebay for around 700 dollars or cheaper but if u buy it staright threw edge be prepared to come off your pocket book a little around 850-900 dollars but i will tell u its the best 800 dollars i ever payed for mine and efi live was the best hundred dollars i ever spent i hope this helps u in decided on your tuner
carcrafter22 02-25-2007, 05:22 PM I have gotten 22.5 mpg hwy and regularly see 21 mpg hwy empty and avg 17.5 around town on an EFILive tune.
all hand calculated

what speed on the highway???
fredw 02-25-2007, 05:49 PM i just did 17mpg, or 20mpg...cdn on my lbz at 75mph, this was at less than 2000 miles on it, so i am hopping to get 0ver the 20mpg in a few months and running summer fuel
on my lb7 on a few trips i seen around the 27mpg cdn, that is some great mileage to say the least
swayse 02-26-2007, 08:14 AM I got worse mileage on a road trip with the predator. But if you are looking for braging rights on mpg, go to the higher elevations. Diesels love higher elevations, at least mine do.
BlackSSmoke 02-26-2007, 09:49 AM I got 18-19mpg on 65mph last Friday nite when I picked it up average.
Coghlin 02-27-2007, 08:10 AM Yeah, an LBZ is never going to get the mileage of an LB7 due to the compression ratio but my LBZ does seem to getting better with age. I think a proper tune would go a long way to improving mileage as seen by my Quad on my LB7. I have to call bull**** on the 20 mpg with a 16 foot car trailer. I have a tiny little trailer I pull every once in a while and I often forget it is there but it still costs me about 2 mpg. Also, any stuff you add to the truck to increase its weight or air resistance(bush bars, tool box, tools) will decrease your mileage. I also second the 27 cdn mpg on a LB7. I have done it multiple times. My LBZ though I am having trouble getting 20 US mpg. Pulling my big dump trailer I got 14-15 USmpg empty and 12 USmpg loaded(14,000lbs). My LB7 would get 17-18 with it empty and never less than 15 mpg loaded.
Back on topic, I tihnk if you put on 32" tires and had the right programmer or EFI Live you could get 21 mpg at 70 mph and 23 mpg at 60 mph. That is what I feel would be possible from my experience. I have years of spreadsheets on my trucks to track all my modifications. I also found synthetic oils in the diffs and transfer case help the mileage and a tonneau cover didn't hurt either. Although I didn't find that the tonneau cover seemed to help much. Windows up and A/C off.
RockRig 02-27-2007, 12:16 PM I saw 20 MPG empty last summer running Hypertech level 3.
Now, with a winter blend, lots of idling and a Predator -> I'm seeing 14 to 16 MPG empty.
All these numbers are around town and keeping it under 75 on the highway.
