I am just over 25,000 miles and want to have the tranny flushed and switched over to synthetic (not sure which one yet). I took it to a local tranny shop who said they would flush and fill with synthetic, as well as change the external filter and screen under the pan for $180. Is this a good price? I haven't had the tranny pan off, is there a screen? Im not sure how comfortable I am with this local shop is there anywhere in the So. Cal area that you guys have dealt with, trust and would reccomend? Thanks again guys

Older Allsion sump filters were available as a brass screen, I used to run one in my Turbo 400 transmissions.


I am sure the Allison Dealer is talking about the sump pickup filter being the "screen" .


Sounds like a good price to me for the flush if it's gonna be TRANSYND.

I guess I should have been more specific, the tranny shop isn't an allison dealer. Just a local shop that did a re-build on my old 97 silverado. I had heard of tranny screens above the pan in the gasers but wasn't sure the allison had something similar. Maybe I can contact a local allison dealer and see what they recommend.

$180.00 is a good price if it's with Transynd. I paid well into the $200.00 range at an Allison shop when I had mine changed out almost 2 years ago. (I'm at work, so I can't check my receipt!) Confirm the fluid and price, then consider Torque-Drive fluid from Amsoil.


I'm in So. Cal. The Allison shop was in Mira Loma at Valley Detroit Diesel & Allison.

I had a local shop quote me $60 to flush the tranny and replace both filters. I'm gonna have to double check them. I'm not sure what oil they use either. Edited by: BukWild

It will cost you over 100$ to buy the syn fluid even if you go with a less expensive syn fluid like mobil 1(I used mobil 1 BTW) so I would say that is in line. Have em drain and refill the transfer case with syn trany fluid too while they are at it. I like mobil 1 BTW.....
