: Fuel Economy
Chevyguy04 02-24-2007, 04:25 PM OK, I am lookin at a 2003 GMC 2500HD D-MAX, should I expect to get about 18-20 MPG. Thats what i have heard from just a few people i know, bup thought i would extend the question out to all of you.
What kind of mileage do you guys get????
Devil Dawg 02-24-2007, 05:08 PM 01' w/ 92000 I get any where from 14 on up to 19 even 20 on a good day. Now i've lifted it and have 35's. so as a result my trip meter says one thing but i have to do the math. without correcting your truck for larger tires you can be fooled by what seems to be lower mileage numbers. Towing i average around 14 or so.
Quick 6 Racing 02-24-2007, 05:17 PM My 03 Dmax has a empty average of 16mpg (lowest) to 20mpg (highest) this is combined city / hwy driving.
Tolliwacker 02-24-2007, 05:33 PM I usually get 18-20 MPG, it just depends on the right foot!
srode 02-24-2007, 09:31 PM Highway empty 18 to 22 depending on how fast I am driving, weather etc.
duramaxguy04 02-24-2007, 11:57 PM Mine averages 17/18 in town and 21/22mpg on the highway.
ontheroad 02-27-2007, 09:51 PM ya depends on where you put your foot mine i keep it about 60 and get 18 to 20
7m34life 02-27-2007, 10:34 PM Damn, either you guys are bull ****ting us or something is wrong with my truck. I get 17-18 on the highway if I'm lucky and around 12-13 in town and I don't drive it hard.
Quick 6 Racing 02-27-2007, 11:24 PM 12-13 sounds low...I can get that towing our 5th...have you re-calibrated for your tires ?
There is a tire calculator that will help do the math. www.miata.net (http://www.miata.net)
My 265's are 3.9% larger which doing the math I should actually add 3.9% to my mileage numbers. So my best HWY 20mpg should be 20.78mpg and my average city/hwy combined at 16mpg sholud be 16.6mpg.
Hope this helps......

How fast are you driving, do you take lots of short trips, and what do you run for tire air pressure? All of those things make a big impact on the mileage, the biggest being speed and short trips.
Spartus 02-28-2007, 08:38 AM I'm recently down to 14.5 mpg at 70 mph highway... Used to get 21mpg. Time to sell the POS.

Don't blame the truck, blame the EPA, ignorant politicians and frigg'n tree hugging knot hole bangers for giving us ULSD.
Did you know that there are over 1400 ACTIVE volcano's in the world and that some of them put out more sulfer dioxide every year than the entire North American continent? Do the math, LSD to ULSD makes no difference. Well, it means that we have to burn more fuel and put out more C02.

msheriff 02-28-2007, 10:12 AM 18-20 highway empty without my foot in it is where I am at
Chevyguy04 03-01-2007, 03:26 PM thanks for the info guys I currently drive an 05 2500hd with a 6.0l and just need a truck that can get me a little better mileage. I drove 22000 miles last year and the fuel added up, I am looking for like an 03 GMC 2500hd Duramax, something that won't cost a ton but still get some better mileage, both normal driving and towing.
duramaxsandwich 03-01-2007, 04:06 PM my 01 w/ mods(sig) gets 15 around town and 18 hwy
dad's 02 (stock)gets about 18-20 all the time...cuz he drives slow
uncle's 02 (stock) gets about 15-17 cuz he drives fast
for us your mileage depends more on your driving style and where you get you're fuel

Mine is still getting the 18-20 MPG, but today I killed the Cat, and straight piped the muffler, hope to improve on those numbers...
bfastcars 03-01-2007, 10:11 PM I get 16-17 in town and 18-25 on the road. The heaver your right foot the lower your highway MPG. I get 22-25 under 75mph.

22-25 under 75! That would be like 60 for me. How do you have such long legs on the freeway? I recently did an 800 mile round trip at 70 mph for pretty much the whole way. I got 19.
