Has anyone had it done down here? I need it done and want to go to a Stealer that has at least done it once. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

No one has. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Okay, then how about a second question. If I use my Total Power/Amsoil Cetane boost mix, the symptoms are reduced. Should I just run it and forget about the regulator until is shows bad with the adatives?

Chris,
Just curious... what are the symptoms that get reduced with the additives?

Hi Bill. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

The surging idle is reduced. It is not nearly as noticeable or annoying. It used to be mostly when it was cold. Now it does it whenever, hot or cold. Sometimes it's fine and other times it is really bad. The problem is it isn't bad all the time, so I have not been able to get the stealer to fix it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif I am inbetween dealers right now and was hoping someone had this done at a dealer around here, so I could try an experianced place.

Chris,

Thanks for the info! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Hope you're able to find a good dealer for your repair. I have yet to find a dealer in my area who has an experienced Diesel Tech... It may be a good sign in that they all tell me they don't see any problems with the Duramax... So far that's been my experience too... fingers are crossed...

I dumped some additive in last night and by this morning it was running much smoother again. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gif Oh well, I guess I'll just stand on it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

I have had injectors replaced by Musser Motors in Terrell, Tx. Gregg Musser is the service manager there and seems to take his job serious.

I have had good results.

Had similar thing happen to SoMNDmax. Eventually even the Total Power wouldn't mask it, BUT evetually, it got bad enough that when he discontinued use, it was out of spec and the dealer changed it...

I'm really interested in the follow up on this. I mean when you get the regulator replaced if it does cure the problem. I have an 2002 2500hd and have the same or simalar problem. My surge occurs when I come to a stop at a light or sign and I'm sitting there in drive. It normally only happens when I am between 1/4 and about 1/2 of the engine being fully warm. Sometimes it will do it when the engine is colder but rarely and it never does it when the temp gauge is above the halfway mark between 160 and 210. So maybe that's about 180 degrees. I started using Stanadyne which has helped but it is still there - comes and goes, sometime minor but sometime worse. I took it to the dealer but he could not duplicate at the time so I will need to try again. Turning the air on can really compond it so I believe it's the regulator. Like I said though when I get above 1/2 way it's smooth as can be and no troubles at all. But it is annoying as hell when it does it.

mightyvh,

Fought with the surging idle with identical symptoms as you describe for over a year and 50k. Dealer replaced 4 injectors and then all 8, 3 months later. Kept telling them that the info here on the forum pointed to the regulator.

Finally, on my last attempt at the same dealer the regulator set a code. Regulator was replaced and the truck runs and idles smooooooooth as silk.

Thanks Billy, that what I was thinking. I hate going to the dealer just because unless its obvious you end up going back and forth a few times. Its kind of like going to the doctor - take two asprin and come back if you still have the problem next week. Anyway I gotta give them a chance as they have been good to me so far. I found this forum looking for input on the surging plus fuel filters etc. All that and more...So I'm making progress. Thanks again Billy......Bill, Ontario Calif

Took a 330 mile trip each way this weekend and went through Terrell. I might look them up. My truck ran good with only a little surge. I guess I will do like SoMNDmax and wait till it is bad with FPPF. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Then pull it off it's medications and get it in. Got 18.2 mgp both ways.

Might also check with Diesel Injection Service.
They have a branch here in Dallas.

Ok Now I must ask the stupid question.....I have an 02 2500hd GMC.

Where is the regulator located....I have the service manual but all it says is "at this time the fuel pressure regulator will be serviced as part of the injection pump" .....No explanation, and in the injection pump breakdown there is nothing resembling the regulator that I saw a picture of. I assume the regulator is near the injection pump or is this regulator not my year?? Any ideas
