My Alternator needs to be replaced and I considering having it rebuilt as opposed to replacing it. The guy at the repair shop stated that the rebuild should be good for around 135 amps. This from what I can tell should be as good if not better than to factory unit generates. I questioned him about increasing the output and he stated that it could be upped to 200 amps for an additional fee, $100. My question it will the increased output really be necessary or should I just stay with the standard rebuild?

Thanks guys for your input!

David

How many electrical addon devises do you have??

If you are running all stock, it is a waste of money. If you have amps for the radio, added lights, compressors, etc then do it. All they are going to do is change the stator and rotor to increase the output, the voltage regulator will still keep you in check so you don't overcharge.

I just replaced mine with one from NAPA for $149, Premium Reman with lifetime replacement. Stock one lasted 195K miles. Factory was 105 amp and I have alot of extra stuff running in my truck and it seems to handle it well.
