Hey everyone,
Tomorrow I am hauling a 12k lb load and I was wondering if someone could tell me what level EGT's I should stay below? I have read somewhere to try to keep them below 1350.....is this right? My edge/juice came with it preset from the factory at 1350 and I wasn't sure if this is the right number to go by or not? I am planning on taking it down from level 3 to probably level 1 when I get it loaded up. It is a 2004 crew cab d/a 4x4 lly motor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think you're right on the money. I personally would try to stay below 1250, but that's just me. If I were doing 1/4 mile runs, I'd bump that up somewhat, but for long hauling, you should be safe on level one below 1250 EGT.
FWIW,

Long grades with that load will easily get you up to 1300 plus..even stock. With the Juice you will hold 5th longer and that's when things will start warming up. Punch it down to 4th if needed to cool things down. I and many here have run the temps up ALOT, so just a matter of what your heart can take.

i pulled 8500 with my juice/attitude two weekends ago. my truck has stock intake/exhaust. i set limit at 1420 and audible alert at 1350. i did pull some pretty decent grades and never saw over 1260, and not for very long at all. i was on level two, so i think you will be fine with your load on level 1. oh yeah, power was simply amazing! wil

As has been said, 5th gear low rpm is when the Dmax stokes the fire. I pull 10k with level 1 on the old Juice (30hp) on long 6% hills and never had an EGT problem. You could use tow/haul mode to bump down to 4th more frequently and avoid the fire stoking.

I didn't mention I installed an O.D. lockout for such occasions. Lees' truck has it from the factory. It will help on the big grades with the added power.

Thanks everyone,
This morning I hauled our 24' gooseneck tandem axle 8 tired trailer to pick up 12k lbs of bentonite for our farm. The truck handled the load just fine. I saw 1200 egt a couple of times but it was only for a split second. This truck amazes me each time I get in it. Thanks again.
