Had the truck in for the first service. As everyone has posted in the past, the spin-on filter for the Allison should be changed. Ok, I tell the "Stealer" to do it. The following is the bill, JUST for the filter.

Replace Transmissin Filter $41.88 FLTR ASM 28.07 Fluid 4.30 TOTAL: $74.25

Yes, for those of you who think you are the ultimate sucker, please take a back seat to "The King" of suckers.

Who was this kind Boston dealer?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

That's why I feel so bad. All I said was,"Holy Sh%!" and then paid the bill. You wouldn't mind, but I bought 4 trucks in the last year off of these guys (only 1 diesel, my baby)!

Raises a good question though. What should a typical replacement cost be? Anyone else have a dealer do this service and how much did it cost?

I know if I did it myself I'd save a ton of money, but I just don't have the time.

Broker, I will pm you. They are customers of mine so I don't want to cause any problems.

If you have time to take it in, you have time to replace the filter. This filter is the easiest to replace of all our filters.

Cost me $65.68 total, the one time I had it done.

I had it done once and they charged $17. I asked to have it done a couple weeks ago and they wanted $139. I walked obviously.

I agree, and a pie pan would catch the little atf that dribbled out. Use a few ounces of atf to fill the filter prior to sticking it back on and you are golden.

Unless they replaced the internal for some unkown reason?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Oh well, live and learn, no biggy. Could be worse too, I heard a guy say a shop quoted him 500$ to adjust his tbars up 1.5".

About a hour and a 130.00 (approx) to do a complete fluid and filter change with Transyd Eric's way.

Is there a do it yourself thread regarding this? Where should I pick up the filter and fluid to do this?

Time? you reach under there with a oil filter wrench and twist it off, with minimal fluid loss. Put the new one on... DONE...

Takes less than the time you wasted going to the STEALER> that's for sure! Don't feel bad, though, now it is my turn in the barrel...

I went in for a problem with the Ground codes on my Prodigy brake controller. They 'troubleshooted the problem", as a missing FUSE to send current to the trailer batteries. Charged me $85 dollars, as NON-WARRANTY repair. The fuse was $3.95. I said the same words you did. But paid, thinking the problem was solved. IT wasn't. I was out the money and still had the problem.

Turns out the Prodigy needed a reprogram, and they sent me a new controller. Never had the problem again, so now, again, it is about time.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifDO I go and fight for the money back?

Still debating that one.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Just don't forget the magnet on the top of the filter. If you don't know what I'm talking about and have already changed your filter don't worry there cheap.

WTF, as long as we're telling "How stupid I was" stories! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

I had a 65 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon with no heat. Pulled the dash out to replace the heater core thinking it was plugged. That didn't fix the problem. Found a loose vacuum hose, plugged it into the side of the carb, instant heat! Yeah, 2 days breaking my back leaning upside down pulling that frickin dash!

My STEALER quoted me $160 for fuel filter and tranny filter change!?!?!?!? I told them they're crazy and bought my filters somewhere else. Took me about 25 minutes to change both filters... would have been faster if I remembered to put the magnet on the new tranny filter (DA**IT)
