This is my first post and like many people I found this place looking for help on my truck.
I recently purchased a 3500 with 135,000 miles. Love the truck but Today I started having a problem. I think it may be the ignition switch but I thought I would ask before buying parts.
When I go to start the truck the radio will play but the "wait to start" light will not come on. I can wigel the key and it will come on. Then the truck starts fine.
2nd problem. Sometimes when I put it in reverse the motor just shuts off...like you had turned off the key.
Are the two problems related?
thanks

Welcome to the 'Place Srmstock,
The symptoms you are describing sound like a bad ignition switch. They are a known problem on these trucks. The consensus here is to go with an OEM one from the stealer as they have larger contacts than the aftermarket ones.
Please go to your user CP and update your signature with the model year of your truck and any mods you have made to help us help you!

Thanks for the info.
Is this a dealer item? Do you have a part # or will they know what I mean if I say I want the stealer one?

called the dealer, man that thing isn't cheap....
They didn't know what I meant by "stealer" So I'm assuming this is just like the one on the truck now.

I was gonna let John answer that one, but.........
"Stealer" is a 'nuther word for dealer, popularly used because of GM's somewhat exorbitantly enhanced pricing scheme(s).
I'da paid 5bucks to see the expression on MrGoodparts' face when he heard you say that.
But, that part is required to heal your symptom, and the cheaper aftermarket pieces can be somewhat flimsy, in comparison

dooh...:D That was good. I was clueless. Maybe that's why he gave me such a big price.
Oh well, I learned something today.

Look at our vendor list quite possibly one of the vendors that advertises on the site has one. If you can't find one there Google or other web search for ignition switch, several aftermarket parts houses have OEM quality replacement parts, also sometimes GM's part direct web site is better than one from dealer even though, they say they offer same pricing.
Once you do get a switch that fits/works add it's p/n to the pn "Part Point" sticky
