I have searched the sites for a better tire and have found most tires have a failure story. Also, seems like every place I called sold Carlisle. I wanted another brand as I just had a blowout on a Carlisle. For the record my tires were over 3 years old and mismatched, bias and radial. Plus the tire that blew was the less rated tire and my trailer was putting too much weight on the tire because my ball hitch was too high. I am correcting that also.
I gave up and bought a Carlisle radial trailer tire, 225X75 X15 E rated. It's rated for 2880 lbs at 80 psi. I did not find the tire on the Carlisle web site.
I bought 5 (one for spare) and if my 7,000 lb car hauler throws one of these I give up.

Don't give up! I got lotsa trailer stories for ya but to save time I will make it short.
The ONLY way to avoid tire failure on trailers(that I have found).
1. Proper inflation.
2. Don't overload the trailer or tires.
3. Keep speeds below 65 mph. (most important)
4. Check tire temps at every fuel stop and rest stop. If they are hot...you need to let them cool down before moving on.
What I have found to be true is high speeds and over heating cause tire failure.
What size, brand , load rating is your trailer?

Gradyghost,
My car hauler is an 18 ft steel bed trailer made by a firm in Texas. I have no complaints about the trailer. Dual Axles are only 3500 lb axles so the tires may be an overkill. Trailer title says trailer weighs 2300 lbs. For the record, I have always paid very close attention to the tires air pressure and have lubed the axles as needed.
My tires are all the same type now and will not be under rated.
Fingers crossed and on the road soon.

I have a 28' Nordic powerboat I purchased within the past year & I replaced all the Carlisle tires with BFG 'Trail T/A' tires'. Considering the trailer has triple axles w/brakes on all, that's a lot of tires & rims. I've had them before on boat trailers and a 5th wheel (Trail T/A) and NEVER had a problem before. I've driven the MI to FL and MI to AZ hundreds of times before moving to AZ. Never had a blowout, flat, etc. with the Trail T/A tires. Put over 75,000 on my last set & still had plenty of tread & life left.
Great tires IMHO. Just a suggestion.

Gradyghost, I agree with everything you suggest; problem is that in the real world, we are not keeping the trailering speeds below 65; I am very guilty of running 70 + with my trailer every week and that is just keeping with the general flow of traffic here. After having blown more Carlisle tires that I can count, I would not put them on any trailer that I pull. The real issue here is that Carlisle is making some very poor tires right now because they are over supplying to trailer mfgs with what they can't properly produce. They outrightly admit they have tires that are blowing out. They admit that tires they subbed to Goodyear with their name on them are blowing out. I have changed all my tires on my trailers to Firestone Steeltex LT's with tens of thousands of miles with not one single problem. I am just careful about not making really sharp turns on blacktop with them.

I heard it was the other way around, Goodyear made the tires for Carlisle for a little while around 2000-2001 or so. Makes sense as Goodyear paid for my damage claim and 5 new tires when one of the Carlisle's on my trailer had its tread seperate and do nearly $1600 in damage to my trailer. I was apparently in the "silent" recall based on the DOT number on my tires.
Have 5 new Goodyear Marathons now care of Goodyear, but it is too early to know if I will run into any problems. Was thinking of upgrading to 16" tires on the trailer, but we might be selling this 5er and buying another one next fall, so I have side tabled that idea for now.

Just goes to show you there is trouble with many of the tires.
Firestone Steeltex came stock on my Chevy truck and one blew apart on the freeway with 27000 miles on the tire. I was not pulling are speeding at the time. Some people have good luck with Firestones but not me.
I traded the other Firestones in and have BFGs now. Won't have a Firestone. You can find as many posts about Firestone Steeltex blowouts as Carlisle tires.
