We went to North Carolina this weekend (400 miles) and had some problems with the tranny. It would hardly shift into overdrive. Just every once in a while. We made it home then but now My wife went to take it to the tranny shop this morning and the glow plugs will not come on now to start the truck (glow plug light will not come on). I should mention the truck did start fine when we stoped a couple of times but the engine was hot. What could be causing the glow plugs not to come on? Since the glow plug light does not come on, it makes me think the controller is bad. Anythoughts? I think i will touch the two connecters from the controller therefore bypassing it for 4 seconds and it might start. Thanks Eric Edited by: carnut114

I looked at it last night and found out it was the ecm ignition fuse so i got it started and my wife is droping it off at the tranny shop today to find out what's wrong with the shifting.

Update on the tranny. The shop said the problem was internal. So they want 300 to take it out and then they will call me and tell me whats wrong with it. They also said the check engine light was a bad map senso and a egr valve. I will do those myself.

On the egr/baro, there may not be a problem there, I have had sympathetic fault there that showed along with a high line pressure (solenoid fault) show on mine, what exactly are they claiming is wrong with the tranny, most of what is wrong can be fixed thru pan removal access.
If they haven't gone too far into it I'd give Suncoast a DPL advertiser a call for a 2nd opinion, the DMAX guys swear by them as being top notch tranny builders.Edited by: Turbine Doc

Turbine doc , They were supposed to take it out yesterday but i have not heared anything yet. I will call them later to see where they are at with it. They just said the problem was internal since the overdrive wasn't working and the fluid smelled like it was burnt. They also did a diagnostic check on the outside sensors and they were fine. I let you know what i find out.

The tranny place got the tranny out of the truck and took it apart. They said the torque converter was purple and when it broke it put metal shavings into the tranny. The planetary gear welded itself on so they had a hard time to get it off. He asked me if i was pulling stumps out of the ground with it. I only have had it for about a month or so. The pervious owner probably pulled alot more than the truck was made for but then again it has 145,000 on it so who knows if it was ever rebuilt. They had two options was was an oem rebuild for 1500 and the other was a heavy duty rebuild with a cooler and a 1 year warrenty for 1800. I picked the heavy duty. It should be ready next wednesday.

I got the truck back last night. It seems to shift alot better. They put all heavy duty parts in and even put a corvette servo since it is a heavy duty design.
