I have an 04 D-Max been wanting to get the Edge product it seems to be the most popuplar. The more threads i read, i seem to get more confused. I dont want to hurt the trans. but really dont no what level to run it in, that would be safe. Everyone talks about defueling and so on is this custom changes made to the Edge? Is all this explained when you by it?
Basically the Edge on it's higher settings is capable of doing in your transmission.
There are always differences between trucks on how much extra power a particular truck can take before the transmission starts to give up the ghost. Some here have gotten away with pretty high power settings for quite some time without toasting the trans, others have had it take the transmission out without significant abuse or high power settings, so it's a bit of a crap shoot.
Basically, you are looking at staying under a 90 HP increase with the LB7 engines, and a little less on the LLY since they have a little more HP and 90 ft/lbs of torque more than the LB7. So it's probably level 4 max on an LB7 and level 3 on an LLY. The LLY box doesn't produce quite as much gain per level as the LB7 box either, so you might run level 4 there as well.
Those suggestions are with the truck unloaded. Most here seem to agree that holding the Edge to level 2 or less while towing or loaded is the best idea for stock trannies. The Edge is also capable of detecting trans slip and defueling, or monitoring EGT's and defueling if excessive temps are reached, provided you run the Attitude monitor and install the EGT probe in one of the exhaust manifolds.
Your stock setup is set to defuel the engine at transmission shift points to help prevent damaging the trans. The Edge can be set to defuel or not at the shifts, as well as being able to increase the amount of fuel delivered to the engine in low boost conditions. That usually produces a slightly better low end response and the smoke some folks like.
All the options are pretty well covered in the documentation that you'll get from Edge, and their customer service is among the finest of any company you'll ever deal with if you have questions or problems.
Hope that helps...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gifEdited by: Zeeb

do you have an lb7 or lly?
The defuling is when the box or truck cuts power durring the shift. makes it easier on the trans. On a stock trans you want it to defuel durring the shifts. The attitued allows you to control the juice box to have defueling on or off(otherwise it defalts to defuel on)
on a lb7 the 90hp level is all i would run on a stock alli.
The destructions do a pretty good job of explaining stuff but the vendor you buy it from should do the explaining. But feel free to ask away and we can help clarify any Q's you got.

crelectric,
Don't worry about not knowing everything about the Juice. I felt the same way before I got mine. Not exactly sure what all of it meant. The instruction manual is excellent for the Juice/Attitude. You can change everything right from the Attitude, which I highly recommend. It is easier than programming your VCR. four buttons let you do anything you want. All you have to do is read the little manual. It's under 40 pages long, and goes through the entire programming and set-up. It even gives recommendations for the settings.

I tow quite a bit so just leave mine on Level 2 and forget it. EGTs are under control and the Allison has learned the new power curve giving positive, smooth shifts. "Try it you will like it ! "http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif
Oh yes, you can download the manuals on the Juice and the Attitude free from the EDGE web page...... "try before you buy " (the paperwork that is)Edited by: Crashdummy

It is if you get the Attitude monitor with it. It's not necessary to have the Attitude unless you'd like the option of changing on the fly and the EGT monitor function requires the Attitude.

If you dont have the attitude but you have a allison trany you will be able to run one level in regular mode and another level in t/h mode, so its kinda adjutsable on the fly without the attitude. Makes it nice since you can have it set to a lower level for towing and a higher level for regular driving. Although setting modes without the attitude is kinda a PITA
