: Fluidampr? Does it work?
NastyNate 02-22-2007, 06:27 PM Just bought a Fluid Ampnr and it hasn't arrived yet. Usually I read quite a bit about something before I purchase it and put it on my truck. Went assbackwards this time. Was wandering if there is anybody out there running this and what they thought about it. Little nervous today after reading what, I believe it was Trippin, said about the Fluid Dampnr back in March of 06. Any info would be Great.
RJWesleyIII 02-22-2007, 07:17 PM I would like to know also
hdd-max 02-22-2007, 08:57 PM I was always told to stay away from them with my race cars, maybe someone who knows for sure will chime in. I have always ran ATI superdmaper on my motors mostly because of what I was taught. I think fluiddamper is the only one making anything for our trucks though.
GTA23109a 02-22-2007, 09:59 PM I've run a couple of them on race motors and never had a problem. Always used the higher-end SFI ones.
Scrufdog 02-22-2007, 11:38 PM I've always wondered if it was really worth using one on a motor that doesnt go over 4000RPM.
farmer0_1 02-23-2007, 02:01 AM mine is sitting on the bench waiting for me to get it install in dads dmax. woulda coulda shoulda and i would be a millionaire. just going to put it on and not look back. besides its taking up some of my clear bench space.

Actually it makes more sense to run a viscous damper on a diesel engine regardless of the lower RPM compared to gas engines. As we know a diesel engine has more cylinder pressure than a gas engine, therefore the crankshaft experiences more crank twist as a result of the higher compression. This leads to the throw of the crank twisting ahead of its normal rotation and then springing back creating a harmonic vibration. This is why you see the larger heavy duty diesel engines all coming from the factory with a viscous damper instead of a rubber damper.
I think we have proven that our Fluidampr works much better than the stock rubber damper on the diesel pickups. This is probably why the new 6.7L Cummins engine comes from the factory with a viscous damper. Our rule of them is that if you have a diesel engine producing more than 300hp the engine really needs a viscous damper to extend the engine running longer & smoother.
The rubber dampers are 'tuned' from the factory to work at the stock power levels and dampen the peak harmonic which occurs at a specific RPM. It works fine at that RPM, however it does not work as well at other RPM's. A viscous damper works at all RPM's because it can adjust itself by the ring inside shearing thru the fluid. Also our dampers will not wear out over time since our Fluidamprs have no rubber to crack or go bad over time like the stock dampers.
I apologize for rambling on I am just trying to cover everyone's question in detail because it is a tricky subject and there is not much education available on viscous dampers. If anyone else has any questions I will try to answer them the best I can.
Thanks.
Deadeye 02-23-2007, 03:37 PM I have been working with VibraTechTVD (Fluidampr) for quite a while and have been running a Fluidampr on my Duramax for a year. I have been able to prove (with an Edge Attitude) that it reduces the rpm spikes considerably on my ZF6 both before and after I installed an SBC double disc clutch that hand no springs in it. The Fluidampr also reduced the idle rattle quite a bit.
I recently notice a new 6.7 Cummins engine that is comming out and the have a viscus damper on all there new engines, even the ones with auto trannies. Why GM does not is crazy. Of all the $ folks spend on their diesel trucks, I don't understand why many don't spend a little for a Fluidampr to save their crankshaft and input shaft
There were several threads some time ago about this and a guy who thought he had a problem with it on a racing gasser did not understand that, when any manufacturer has a problem, they fix it or they are out of business. In the case of a diesel, I bet none of you ever ran over 3500 rpms ! Running a gasser at up to 10,000 rpms is a different issue all together. Anyhow, I still love my Fluidampr and so do my customers. Check these out and if you want to talk to me about harmonic vibration give me a call or email.

moss022 02-24-2007, 12:08 PM i think bully dog sells one now too
mx2702001 02-24-2007, 05:29 PM Been running them for years on our Big Trucks N14s all diesel engines should have them i would say
RJWesleyIII 02-24-2007, 06:10 PM what is the price, and what does installing one take?
Deadeye 02-25-2007, 10:29 AM what is the price, and what does installing one take?
Retail price is now $414.95. If interested PM me. I may be able to save some $.
BTW, VibratechTVD (Fluidampr) is now making one for the old 6.5 chevy. I can also provide them for Fords and Dodges if you got any buddies with different diesels.
thejdman04 02-25-2007, 03:47 PM They are finally making one for 6.5's darn, mines gone. Wish they would have made one when I had mine. The darn ones gm had w/the rubber always got cracked and rubber missing , ie running no dampner which isnt good.
Deadeye 03-01-2007, 03:20 PM Also make them for 6.2 Chevy, Dodge and Ford diesels, and lots of cars as well.
MarkBroviak 03-03-2007, 11:29 AM We are selling them hand over fist. They are an instance difference in the power and feel of the motor.

There are quite a few dealers but few on this forum were paying any attention until I started some threads, did some testing, and got Dan Oddy's predicessor linked up here! I am glad that pick-up diesel guys are now starting to pay attention. Saving expensive engines for a cheap price is pretty smart thing to do. If you do a "diesel spike" or "fluidampr" search on this forum you will see other posts. I put mine in a year ago and have had a lot of noticeable improvements.
