Anyone using the hypertech ,they say you can tow at the max level 90hp with 4" exhaust. Just wondering , need a programmer thet you can use all out towing.

I would suggest towing at the 40hp level only just from what I have been told. You might want to look around on the forum and do some research. Think you might be ok but think that your EGT's might be a little high at that HP level...

Unless you are willing to risk serious damage to your transmission, I would not tow 'all out' with any programmer. You might get lucky and not slip it, but then again you might not. The question you gotta ask yourself is, Do YOU feel lucky. . . Well, do ya?

Get yourself a pyrometer, install the probe into the exhaust manifold, and keep the temps under 1200 degrees. If the exhaust temps stay in the safe zone, and the transmission temperature stays in the normal range you are on a safe power level. Don’t take anyone’s word for what works for them or what is recommended. Have the real numbers from your truck and you can adjust accordingly. If the temps are lower you can raise the power. If the temps get higher than you want lower the power, or get out of the throttle. Changing your exhaust system to a quality four inch system will drop your temps approximately 200 degrees, and an air intake system will help also.

A friend is trying to sell his hypertech. Nothing wrong with it, he just wants more power. He tows a 8000# camper with it on the 90 and it definitely gets hot... He lets out of it anytime it gets to 1200 which is often if climbing a hill... I really wouldn't rely on too much usuable power out of a power adder when towing, just too risky.

If you're interested in buying that hypertech, pm me and I'll see what he'll take for it...

JMO but you can slip your trany pretty good before you see a major temp rise. JMO

But yeah, run a pyro.

The first and only time I have towed I ran the juice in 125hp level with my scIII trany and left it in level 5. I was supprised that it was realy easy to keep the egt's in check even running 85 mph and needing to give her hell passing some cars on a 2 lane. I definatly wasnt driving as safe as I should have but stuff happens, I'm glad i lived through it. This was a good sized flatbed trailer that normally hauls around skid loaders and such with a reg cab 2wd dakota on the back. So keep an eye on your pyro and you will be fine. Or get a juice or a banks and va and run it on the lowest level and you shouldnt have an egt issue. Different boxes run cooler, I think IIRC the hypertechs and early predators run hot egt wise.
