Does anyone have general instructions/tips for changing the water pump on a vortec 5.3? Is it like any other bolt on pump or are there tricks in volved?

Straight forward, nothing to it. Pull air intake, upper fan shroud, fan, belt, belt tensioner, dissconnect hoses, pull the 6 waterpump bolts. Pump just come off, gaskets are metal and rubber so cleaning mating serface on engine is east. Go back together with it.

they are easy they only pay a couple hours. so it can be done in an hour ar so.

cake walk, take some extra time and clamp the hoses off so you don't lose so much coolant.
