For those of us going through the injector problem and to anyone else that may know. The GM bulletin 04039 states that the part # for the injector replacement is 97729095 INJECTOR KIT incls:gasket+8 injectors.

Is this THE NEW PART #.I saw the packaging of the injectors the Tech is putting in my truck and it CLEARLY states-REMANUFACTURED.I don't have the part # from that packaging but i will have tomorrow when i p/u my truck.

Remanufactured---SHOULd THIS BE A CONCERN?

Remans would not be as good as NEW.

A refurbished hard drive is guaranteed to fail its just "when" thats the question.

Any tech's that can add to that or any others that have had the injectors replaced and have had bad results.

I would like to have some comments ready to assert my position to the dealer on Monday in regards to future possibility of problems or as it has been posted"I'ts just a matter of time".Apparently, from what i have read from all the folks with failures they(GM) have NEW injectors--but a 4-6 week wait.Guess this may be why i have been serviced so quickly after complaining---i"m getting REMANUFACTURED.This is why i wanted to know the part # for NEW and any KNOWN part #"s for the remanufactured.

I've been so on edge about this injector sh*t that it's been driving me nuts SINCE LAST fRIDAY.I've been reading as much as possible about it and just found the following.

MACKLIN AND DMAXALLITECH YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY WITH THESE TWO POSTS I HAVE JUST READ.

Mackin Posted: 14 July 2004
You will probably find that this will be a common practice with these injectors.

Bosch/GM are replacing the defective mechanical parts and reusing the Solenoid (electrical) and calling the re manufactured.

I'd be semi disgruntle but happy if it was a solid corrective action.

dmaxalliTech Posted: 14 July 2004 at 8:03pm

The injectors are only labeled as remans, this is so that they may collect a core charge on them, ensuring that they get the old injectors back and may get them to Bosch for evaluation. According to one of the Dmax Brand Quality Mgrs, its only the labeling. THe injectors are indeed new and never before used. I suspect that once they get a handle on these, they may start a reman process, but the risk of getting a faulty injector part back into the supply chain is just to risky at this time.

So.. you do have NEW injectors, but the other issue sounds like a dealer issue, not a part issue....

Thanks you guys.I'll post the results of "my fix' next week when i get it back.

Great research on your part and I'll second the thanks to MACKLIN AND DMAXALLITECH for all they share!

No problems (except brakes) to date on my '03 (40,000kms) but I keep monitoring this tremendous forum. What a wealth of info. Good luck on the repair. Keep us updated ...eh!

I'm not far from you near Woodstock.

I had eight replaced with injectors of same part number as the core return (97729095). Service writer said they were the new "improved" ones but I wonder since it has the same p/n.

http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif So let me get this straight, the injectors, injector bodies are new but they are reusing the electronics. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Pinch.gif

That does not bother me much as long as the new bodies stay together for another 150,000 miles. They say my truck will be done Monday after being there since July 20Th.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

I almost for got what it looks like.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Thank you burntb4 (haven't we all been) for the post, excellent research!

I think they label them as Reman so that they get the cores back. New injectors would imply no core. I think it is just GM's way of making sure they get the cores back. Of the "reman" units that I have purchased, all have been new as near as I can tell.

From my experience in automotive/truck repairs (over 20 yrs) & legally speaking, there is an industry difference between labels (new, remanufactered, rebuilt, used) & mis-labeling has caused much grief for numerous rebuild/reman companies. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Here are the various meanings;

NEW = just that, new. as in never used before.

REMANUFACTERED = not new, some core item(s) remain, items capable of failing prematurely are replaced/upgraded.

REBUILT = not new, some core item(s) remain, only failed items are replaced/upgraded.

USED = not new, remaned, or rebuilt.

In my experience, "core charges" have nothing to do with these descriptions. As an example, in certain areas, NAPA currently charges a "core" on the purchase of new batteries, & for a while, also did so on almost anthing with an aluminum body ie-water pumps. Core charges are usually set to insure the return of basic materials nessecary for the further distribution of the product.

Hope this helps clear up some confusions regarding these desciptive terms..........http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif

I went and had another chat with my friendly tech today.First i indicated i was going out as soon as possible after i get the truck back and putting on a pre-oem fuel filter and he says BAD IDEA.Asked why and he says there is a bulletin out by GM saying it VOIDS WARRANTY.Anybody got the skinny on that.

I had a look at the bottom of the injectors he took out and they looked a bit rusty and partially clogged with crap. One of them was about completely clogged? You guys in the know can probably tell me what caused that and what i can do in the future to prevent it.

Next i looked at the injectors he is installing and wrote down this # 8972080749.There were other #'s on the injector but nothing in a series longer than 3 or 4,and certainly NOTHING other than what i have written above that could be interpeted as a part #.There were also NO stickers or #'s on the individual bags that the injectors were in.The TSB related to the Special Policy warranty specifies #97729095.Any comments?

How can a pre filter void warranty. I would fight that bs...

Ditto PC comment,

I'm in the process (bought filter today) of adding Cat filter pre OEM filter, so am anxious to learn more about this GM bulletin the dealer is talking about. He can't be serious?

dmaxalliTech

No such TSB that I have seen or heard of, in fact GM specifies the Racor kit similer to what Greg sells.

Thats total BS.

I got 2 pre OEM filters and the dealer loves the set up even tho one is a lift pump with a water-fuel filter on the bottom.

First ask him for a copy of the bulletin, or at least the number. Post that here and we will have the full skinny in short order. My 2004.5 has been to the dealer several times on the A/C problem. They evacuated and re-charged the system, now this last time they installed parts, and I assume recharged the system. I would imagine the hood was open at these times. And there in the second alternator position, in all it's glory, sits my home-brew pre-OEM filter. Have not heard a peep about warrenty problems. My opinion when it gets right down to it, your tech is blowing smoke.

Burntb4; which dealership are you dealing with? I'm from Hamilton aswell. I have been going to Queenston on Centennial Parkway. SEEM to be good people. Service councelers could be better, though.
