: VSS and electrical question

I have a 93 Chevy K3500 with a 454. (I know, not a diesel, but please don't kick me out!) It has the 4L80E transmission and the previous owner did a horrible job of putting things back together on this truck.

I was going to replace my Vehicle Speed Sensor due to the Check Engine Light coming on and it throwing a code on this. Is the VSS the sensor that is on the tailshaft? Right where the driveshaft meets up with the transmission?

I found an electrical plug on the drivers side of the transmission that is not plugged in. It is about in the middle of the transmission towards the back. There is one that looks just like it that is on the front of the transmission (towards the bellhouse) that is plugged in. Then this one that is towards the back, is just sitting there with nothing plugged into it. Should there be something plugged in here?

Thanks for all the help!

The pic shows the connection in question. You can't see it too well, but I circled it in red. It is the one towards the tail shaft just up from the main wiring.

Can anyone tell me where the vehicle speed sensor is?

This picture is courtesy of Bowler Performance Transmissions. Dem are some perty transmissions!

If anyone was following this post, I found my question. There are two Vehicle Speed Sensors on a 4L80. Those would be the two that you see in the picture I supplied.

However, my back one is not plugged in. This concerned me. But I found out that on some vehicles they may of put a VSS on the transfer case or they may of even put it back on the differential. I found mine on the transfer case so the computer is getting its second VSS reading from there hence why the transmission one is not hooked up!

Just in case someone else was wondering!
