: Disconnecting Vacuum EGR

I would like to disconnect my vacuum driven egr. Does anyone have any instructions for this? I've read the lly posts, which apparently use a stepper motor but of course that doesn't help much.

thanks!

You'll throw some codes and light the SES indictator ( I assume your vehicle has CA emissions). I would think you'd be better off just restricting the flow of exhaust gas into the EGR cooler (as has been done in the LLY posts). It looks like the part they are making will fit the exhaust/cooler interface (check for yourself). You'll still throw codes though.

I'm not worried about throwing codes... What I did do this afternoon was disconnect the vacuum hose from (what looks like) the diaphram and took it for a spin--have a check engine light (I assume the specific codes are displayed on the DIC?). I couldn't tell if this made a difference though and I'm likely to reconnect the hose 'cause I don't want dirt in the diaphram (see pic of what I disconnected).

Question then is, by putting in the plate as show in the LLY posts, what happens to the exhaust gas that's being blocked? is it being vented elsewhere?

Thanks!

By adding the blocking plate, the exhaust gas is just being prevented from flowing to the exhaust gas cooler then to the EGR valve and then to you intake manifold. If you follow how the cooler is hooked up, you will notice it comes off the passenger side exhaust bank. Since this small portion of exhaust gas cannot be recirculated into the intake manifold, it just goes through the turbocharger and out the exhaust. This is the same thing that happens when the EGR valve is closed.Edited by: OC_DMAX

This "exhaust gas cooler", what does it look like/location?

For the exhaust gas cooler, look in the engine "V" on the passenger side between the valve cover and turbocharger in the back half of engine. It is a chrome cylinder (3 inches in diameter by 6 inches long - dimensions are a guess). Mine is made by "Tokyo Radiator".Edited by: OC_DMAX

Hmm, sounds like something to clog up ~ thanks for the response http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
