Will putting a straight pipe on void my warrenty? Would rather put a real straight pipe on than just removing muffler.
How do they sound with just the CAT in place and not the muffler?
Just bought it yesterday. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

JaMan,
I put the MBRP 4" cat back on a while back. It sounded great. Not too loud, but you could definitely tell there was something back there. If you got on it, you could hear it a little bit, but outside the truck, I'm sure it sounded pretty good.
Last night, I put on the 4" downpipe. OMG, what a difference in sound. It is MUCH louder than just the cat-back. Before I put it on, I could hear the engine over the exhaust, with the downpipe, you can hear the exhaust over the engine. This thing is perfect for me.
The one thing you will notice a lot more is the turbo noise at idle. The vanes go pretty much shut at idle, so you will hear the exhaust hissing at idle. Some people have said they don't like that, but I think it's kind of cool.
I was grinning ear to ear last night testing the downpipe. . .
So the MBRP has two options on sound (if you are talking single exit) not so aggressive but sounds good (without downpipe), and pretty aggressive and sounds good (with downpipe).
If you aren't sure, go with the cat-back first, then if it isn't loud enough for you, add the downpipe later. No big deal.
The exhaust is very easy to install. Took me just under two hours in nearly complete darkness and I took the exhaust off in one piece (just in case I ever want to put it back on).
It did take me a while to get the Cat off. It takes a little wiggling and working to get it out, but it will come without removing any major stuff, but I tried to do it with the rest of the exhaust in place. You have to get the cat-back part out of the way first, then you'll have enough room to get the cat back, turn and twist it to get it out. I also had to squeeze the bracket above the crossmember down to be able to slide the cat forward over it. It's a pretty tight squeeze but it will come out.

Just posted that in another thread. That answers the sound question. Warranty voiding depends on many things, most notably the dealer where you get your truck worked.
Hope it helps,
Dennis

Just know that if you mess with “pollution” equipment, and get caught the fines are HUGE.

And they have the CAT's for a reason you know.
