Everyone,

Last week, my truck stopped running, and I took in into the dealer. They found that the fuel lines needed to be replaced, as there is a vacuum leak in the line, and it won't hold prime when cold. The estimate to drop the tank, drain and clean, and replace the line is 1600 dollars. Is this an accurate estimate?

Let me know.

I would bet the problem is at the bleeder screw on the fuel filter assembly. I would definitely get a second opinion before dropping $1600 at a stealer.

I doubt the lines are the problem. my 2003 came from MI with 160k mi. on it and the lines are fine. as was already said check the oem fuel filter housing for leaks.

I agree on checking the bleeder screw. I was having a lot of problems with hard starts and finally no start. I understand why GM used a plastic part, so as not to mess up a $500 filer housing, but why don't they sell a replacement for this $4 part? I ordered the brass replacement with the hose attachment. If you push the stealer, they may get you a new one if that is what it is. Check those quick disconnect fuel lines as well. I don't think dropping the tank is that big of a deal.

The other potential, (IMO), for loosing prime is degraded O-rings in the fuel filter assembly.
Supposedly ULSD does not swell Buna N, (Nitrile) O-rings as much as LSD, and leaks develope.
Another option may be to install a lift pump, to maintain positive pressure in fuel system.
