Hi Eric:
I have 6000 miles on my truck. I drained the differentials Friday and replaced the fluid with Mobil 1 Synthetic 75-90.
On the drain plug of the rear diff were some metal pieces, maybe 5-8, that were about the size of #9 shot. Small, but they were definitely not shavings. They look to have broken off something, and a couple seem to have come from something that is cylindrical in shape, almost like pieces of toothpicks with no taper.
I have not noticed any performance issues, at all. As a matter of fact, the truck is running great. But now I think I need to drop that fluid again real soon and check for more debris.
I'm all ears. What could it be? Want me to send you the pieces? I saved them. Should I be worried?
