Hi, I have a 1998 Gas burner 454 with dual battery trays. I was wondering what it would take to hook both batteries up.
Currently there is no way to charge the second battery and I would hate to install one only to have it go dead from not being charged. I only have one alternator and it's wired to the passenger side.

Is something like this possible on a gas burner? I see plenty of the diesels running dual batteries.
Can one alternator charge both?

Sure, no problem.

1. Run a Black battery cable from the negative terminal of the new battery to a solid, secure, clean ground like a bolt on the engine block or one of the ground strap bolts.

2. Run a Red battery cable from the positive terminal of the new battery to the positive terminal of the original battery. You will probably need a new longer bolt for the connection at the original battery due to the added thickness of the new cable. Just tell the guy at [Autozone?] what you are doing.

Oh, and dont forget the hold-down clamp for the new battery.

This arrangement doesnt provide for isolation or anything. The batteries would be connected in parallel and would charge and discharge together....and provide more CCA, or reserve capacity for lights or music.
