I'm new to this site but i have been reading alot of forums about the edge w/attitude. I have a 03 Dmax that is bone stock except for a K&N factor replacement filter and i am going to be installing edge with attitude on tomorrow it is version 4.73. My queston is do i take it easy for awhile so the trans can learn like start out level 1 then gradually increase? de-fuel all shifts?. I would really appreciate it if I could get the best answers possible so i dont have any SES lights of limping problems I also heard not to take it past level 3 on a stock truck but just to hit level 4 or 5 is ok every now and then. Whats also the best setting to get rid of a little turbo lag? the truck performs great as a stock truck so i am really stocked to try the edge out i have been so undecisive on the edge or a predator i hope i chose wisely please help!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

Well taking it easy is up to you. There are generally three philosophies as near as I can tell. First is, leave it stock and take it generally easy most of the time. Second is, drive it like you stole it from day one, and same with mods. In the middle is the third, where I also happen to sit.

My tack is to do the recommended break-in period with the truck (which you are already way past), then when you add the Juice/Attitude, start in level 1, low boost wherever you like it (mine has been on 5 from the beginning) and defueling all locked shifts. Then after a week or so, step up to level two. Same for level three. I am not going past three until I get a transmission upgrade next Summer, so that's my take on it. I haven't had any problems with any of the stuff I've put on.

You will notice a lot less turbo lag in levels 1 through 3. It is awesome the difference it makes.

Dave,

Welcome and congrats on the Edge. You will need to take it easy and let the trans learn, you are correct. I would de-fuel as well, seems like you have been doing your reading as you stated, good for you. The trans can withstand about 90 hp over stock and then you will run into issues. So be careful and enjoy. You might want to start saving your pennies for a transmission as the more power you add you will need it and trust me when I say power is addictive.. Good luck and there are several threads on pyro and boost install so that you will get those readings on the Attitude..

Put it on level 5 and play some then when u go to level 1 or 2 the tranny is ready to go.

It has already learned the extra power.

I knew about pyro install but what is this about boost install? I never saw anything about that in the Edge manual and that is the first time I heard about it on here too. My Attitude show me boost and I didn't install anything.

The boost takes a reading off the turbo to determine boost setting. It is all done through the ECM plugs, so there is nothing to install.

Well i just hooked up my edge today and i'm totally impressed it took about 45min to install with drilling out the manifold, boy it is like night and day even on level 1. Just for kicks and grins i tried 0-60 on level 2 and i got 8.9s. on level 3 i tried to do a 1/4 time but i just lit the back tires up for 50 feet i can imagine level 4 or 5. no problems the truck ran just fine. I would recommend edge products to anyone with a Duramax!http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

I am by far NO expert on the Mods. But am curious as why no one recommended changing your exhaust to 4' or 5' to keep the exhaust temps down???I thought this was very inportant?? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

I think the general consensus is the gain is marginal over the 4".

But they know you have a big diesel with 5" exhaust. I don't know the last ime I've seen a 4" inch exhaust, everybody around here has 5" or my friend has a 6" tip on his 5".
