The dead horse is still being beaten over the internal differences of the 06' Duramax Be it an LLY or LBZ, and threads about programing and horsepower diff's go on and on.

Is there any "real world" differences people have seen to condem one over the other (MPG?) (dispite the fact they're both good engine's).

I mean technicaly if they are the same motor less tuning and "Average Joe" was to buy one for every day use +, say haul an 8000lb camper 6 times a year,:driver: or go get a load of gravel / firewood, or help a buddy move. Is there any need to have 50 more hp and 40 more tq, guys that bought in 01' had 300/520 and were blown away!.

 I am as much for high hp and torque as the next guy, and believe me i love that Diesel's are the heart of a new era of performance vehicles, but what's the limit for "Average Joe"?

I am a guy that want's a reliable 3/4 ton diesel powered truck, that can haul the family, toys, and last me 15 years. With sticker prices here in Canada near the $60k mark and houses @ $450k+, what are you suposed to do?

When is too much too much?. The new Ford confuses the he** out of me:confused: . Who needs two turbos on an everyday truck:shootself , I think they're just trying anything for the h/p title. And for what? If that gamble fails there screwed.

Sorry that this post is so all over the place, and feel free to tell me what's what. I just get frustrated that dam* near everything you read now is "Well, you just spent $60k for 365 hp/ 660 tq let's get that baby pushing 500 hp and 1000 tq."

*Rant Over!!* Thanks for listening

There are some of us who are perfectly happy with the stock motor. I like to follow what the aftermarket is doing with these motors, but to get me through my average day I have more than enough. The only thing I wonder about for the long term is the heavy electronic controls on the motor and tranny. Many little things that can shut down and strand someone instead being able to crawl home to figure it out, but they're all like that now.

I have driven LBZ's and not that much difference. Engine wise I am at 120,000 and running strong. I have been running my Bullydog on Tow/economy I get about 1.5-2 MPG better with it. Other than merging etc. I seldom really romp on it. I am trying for 5 years or 500,000 out of this truck.

As for Ford I think they are trying everything to bring customers back. The 6.0 killed their truck market. My previous vehicle has 350,000 and still runs strong. It is a 1 ton van. I have hauled as much as 25,000 Lbs with it so they are not all easy miles. I hauled 12,000 quite regularly. It was 10 years old and all the supporting stuff was getting bad. Had they not changed and still had the 7.3, I would most likely be a Ford owner still.

I can't tell the difference between a stock 06 LLY and LBZ by the seat of the pants. The LBZ is probably faster in a head to head drag race, but not enough of a difference exists to notice individually. I'm very happy with mine and will probably never put a tuner on it because I want to keep it for a long time before having to fork out $$$ for a transmission rebuild.
I don't pull heavy with it very much, but when I have it has been more than I'll ever need. A 9000# dump trailer didn't even feel like it was behind me once at speed.
You'll be happy with whatever you buy as long as your expectations arent set so high that you want an 11sec dragster, a family hauler, and something that can pull your travel trailer all in one without ever breaking down.

Dont think those LLY's actually put out 310 h.p. either. Someone here dynoed one bone stock and it put down 293 h.p. to the wheels. 17 h.p. loss through the tranny and drive train? I think not.

You do the math.

These things are under rated, like GM's done for years with alot of products.
