The Cordless Impact Wrench thread got me to wondering. What about corded models?

I don't how many here experience what I typically do but a cordless model only means dead batteries when I need it most. For no more than I use some items, there's no logic in leaving a battery sitting in a charger permanently for months on end between uses. And not leaving it in the charger means there's little to no power when I am ready to use it because it wasn't charged up.

So I'd like to know who has a quality corded model. With the power source used, I'd think they would offer better torque too.

I have no where to put a large (60 gal) air compressor for realiastic use of air impact.

Thanks,
Andy

Personally, use milwaukee, bosch or dewalt

Those are air impact. Asking about corded (electric) not air.

I have the dewalt 1/2". It works great and is bullet proof.

Sorry my bad. Personally I've never seen a good electric wrench. My cordless has more power than my dads old black and decker electric.

Thanks guys. I'd like to go with air but a solid corded will have to do for a while.

Had mine for 10 plus years. No trouble.

You can get a small "pancake" compressor(like cotractors like roffers and such use) that takes up little room and allows you to fill tires and use some smaller air tools. An air cut off whell is very handy(albiet air hungry but for limited use you could probably get by). Plus an air blow gun is nice for all kindsa things.

just like everyone else has said. dewalt 1/2 drive. once upon a time i installed dock doors/dock sills on walmart buildings all over the US. the dewalt never failed and was subject to more abuse than any other 2 corded tools we used.

although, i will say my 1/2 drive snap on air impact is tougher.

i believe the corded dewalt uses a detent pin to hold the sockets onto the drive. if your sockets have a small hole in 1 or 2 of the 4 sides, it can be a very real PITFA to get your sockets off the impact. almost everytime it requires a small screwdriver to push the detent pin down so that your socket will slide off the impact. if there is a corded impact that has the retaining ring around the end of the drive (like what is found on most all air impacts), i would go with it reguardless of what brand it is.

Used a Dewalt 3/4" electric impact at work almost on a daily basis and it gets abused like there is no tomorrow and does the job. I have seen it dropped from 20 feet up to the ground and left in the rain overnight and it still worked.
