: TTS POWERLOADER
MADDMAX 08-27-2004, 05:41 AM Has anybody used the TTS POWERLOADER 2 (switchable) power levels from economy=30, tow=80, race=120, extreme=200. If so, how are the driveability, shifting, etc. of these programs. Are they the same quality as the "TOW-TUNE" that they program directly into your ECM? Is there a difference in the tunes if they program it directly to your ECM or you download the tunes yourself via the POWERLOADER?
Thanks for the help guys.
OC_DMAX 08-27-2004, 08:33 AM I have the 3-way switchable TTS programs installed on my truck (LB7). I have the 30/80/120 version.
In general, I do not use the 120 setting, as my transmission has not been modified with a shift kit or torque converter. The tow tune is actually perfect for me anyway. The truck drives better than stock. You can switch between each of the tunes and the transmission shifts the same. There is no re-learning process necessary by the transmission. TTS has made this happen by reprogramming how the ECM talks to the TCM for each of the power levels.
I purchased a spare ECM from TTS and the programs were loaded directly into the ECM (I do not have the Powerloader). I believe they are the same programs that come with the Powerloader. Personally, I would recommend going the spare ECM path. That way you have the stock ECM to put back in place if you need to take the truck in for service. Probably the one weakness with the current TTS Powerloader set-up is that it cannot reflash the ECM back to the stock setting. You may want to talk with Diesel Tech on the phone, he showed me a version of a new PowerLoader (3?) that is in development that will allow the user to reflash back to stock (similar to the Predator). Not sure of the availability date.
MADDMAX 08-27-2004, 09:16 AM OCMAX,
How do you switch to the different power levels if all the tunes are programmed into the ECM? Have you tried any of the other power boxes?
OC_DMAX 08-27-2004, 09:47 AM There is a 3-way toggle switch that mounts under the dash. An extra wire is run to one of connectors on the ECM. You can switch between each of the 3 programs while running down the road (all the information is loaded in the ECM, the program is just executing different parts of the code).
I also have the Edge Attitude/Juice. It is a good set-up. The unit I own has a No-Start issue (so I purchased the TTS ECM to replace it). I believe Edge has fixed the issue (probably need to send the unit back to them to get it repaired). The Edge programs are good, I had no problem with them (just the damn No-Start issue). I think the Attitude monitor is a pretty cool device.
From my perspective, it really comes down to this: The Edge Juice is a massed produced unit that without question is the most popular unit on this forum. It can be easily added or removed from the vehicle. There are a bunch of extra wires/cable harnesses that go with the installation. This unit is the lower cost approach. The TTS Program is a custom device that must be specifically programmed for your vehicle. It is really just a program and the addition of one wire/switch combo. If you install it in your ECM, it cannot be easily removed. So that really forces one to buy an extra ECM for warranty issues. Since it is custom programmed, the TTS route is the more expensive path. However, the reprogramming of the ECM is the correct way to make more power (assuming the programming is done proper, which TTS has accomplished in my opinion).
Which DMAX do you have ? LB7 or LLYEdited by: OC_DMAX
MADDMAX 08-27-2004, 11:51 AM Sorry , OC DMAX, My truck is an 03 cc shortbox LB7. (bone stock) I have been trying to figure out which power adder would be the best. I have read so much on the EDGE, Banks and others. But, one thing is for sure, I never hear of any problems with the TTS programs. Money really isn't the deciding factor. I would rather pay a little more especially if there will be no issues with the product. I noticed from your signature you also have the TTS exhaust, How do you like it? I have been considering Banks, ATS, and a few others. I don't want something that is to loud or will have a drone at a particular RPM. With the TTS programs are you getting the correct information from the DIC (fuel mileage etc.)? How do you like the Bilstein's? I just ordered a set from JK.

Yeah.....what he said! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
FYI,
My ECM has the "80", "120", and "OH MY GOD", for it's 3 settings.
