Interesting issue I have never dealt with before.

... How do you get a K2500 front brake rotor off?

The Haynes and Chilton manuals were worthless as usual.

Do you need a special puller since it is on a splined axle? One thing I think was in the Haynes was having to pull the bearings and rotor together?

Very odd setup I think.

What happended was the rear pad in the caliper wore to the bone and started rubbing metal on metal :( Granted the front pad on the caliper is still like 50% good! I have never seen this happen before on any car. Usually the pads wear semi evenly.

Long story short is that I need to get this truck rockin' for Monday morning.

Thanks!!!

This has been covered before. I've read about it several times. The only thing I can think to search is for posts by jifaire because I know he chimed in on one of the threads when I gave some incorrect info. I didn't realize the 8 lug rotors on the 2500s were different then on the 6 lug 1500s.

I do know that on the C3500 truck, there are bearings that float on the outside and another set inside the race on the rotor. I am not sure how they are set up on the 4x4's. I changed mine when I got the truck and probably need to repack them soon.
Sorry if I was not much help.

The uneven wear front to rear on your brake pads is probably cause by sticky slider bolts. When you move your calipers to gain access to the rotor completely remove the slider bolts and clean them and thier bores in the calipers. Inspect the seal and reassemble with a quality lube. If they've been sticking for a while you might need to replace the slider(s).

I've been searching for a reason for the uneven wear. My truck is slightly less than 70thou km and has (as of the last tire rotation) +80% good on the front end, but less than 20% on the rears. There is scheduled dealer maint shortly and at this point I will have them dig into the brake assembly's for further inspection.
