: Help Needed With New Truck Purchase!!!

Hi to all,

I'm seriously considering buying an '04 D-Max LB7 simply because I can get much better rebates as compared to the LLY. (LB7's are available with the $5,000 incentives right now according to my dealer.)

So here are my questions:

1. The truck doesn't come with fog lights, and I'd like to have them. Based on what I've found on DMaxAlliTech's website, it looks like they can be added no problem. Will the airdam have to be modified, or does it already have the holes precut? Basically, will this be a plug and play operation?

2. I'm planning to use a GM In the Driveway Certificate, which to my understanding allows me to buy at supplier pricing, NOT GMS pricing. However, based on other information I've read in the forum, supplier pricing should be right at 15% off MSRP. However, on the particular truck I'm looking at MSRP is $41,806, and I had planned on supplier price then being roughly $35,535. However, the dealer is coming up with a figure about $1600 higher than this, and he says he is reading supplier price right off the invoice. What gives?

3. The truck is an LS, but it has the Medium Gray Leather option. However, all the literature I read only mentions this option as applying to the front seats. What does the rear seat in an extended cab end up being then?

4. Finally, the truck doesn't have the redundant steering wheel controls, which I really like. While I can live without it, I guess I won't be able to access any of the DIC info. Is there anything major besides figuring milage that I won't be able to utilize?

Sorry for this being so long, but I really appreciate your help, especially on the pricing conflict.

I used a GM in the driveway certificate and my sticker was $41,000 something and I think I got $2500 incentive and it brought it down to $34,000 something. So those figures are pretty close to mine. As far as the fog lights mine had them but from the ones I have seen with out them, it looks like they just have little knock outs or cut outs. I am sure the leather option has to be for all the seats. I don't see how they could sell a truck with mismatched seats. I have an LT and actualy the rear seat seems like it is simulated leather. Even the front seats seem like only the seating surface is leather and the sides and backs are simulated. I also have steering wheel controls. I read about accessing the DIC with out stearing wheel controls in my manual and I think you can access most of the stuff but I can't remember for sure. Here is a link to the owners manual in PDF forum if you want to look for your self. https://www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2content/manual/US/en/chevrolet/2k04silverado.pdf

I'm still confused about the pricing. Can anyone help explain this to me? I've got an older invoice for a 2003 gas truck sitting here at home which the math doesn't work out correctly either. By taking 15% off the MSRP, I get a figure only a few dollars away from GMS pricing but much less than the listed supplier price.

My GMS price for '05 MY only works out to be between 15% and 16% off MSRP (a little under invoice). This may help you too......I think (but not positive) that you end up paying sales tax on the amount before the rebates are applied (at least in michigan).

If you can find an '04 Duramax that you like- buy it!! You will save a ton of cash - more than enough to put fog lights on it!! I couldn't find an '04 in my neck of the woods.

IF you get the fog light and they were not orignally equipped with them, you have to get the dealer to program them with the Tech II.

The seats in my 2002 are only lether on the front seating areas and the rest is Vinyl. The back seat of the extended cab is all vinyl. I wish it would have been cloth rather than that cheap crap.

if you are serious about buying this truck, copy down the window sticker options and price and go to edmunds.com and price the same truck with options included. it will give you msrp and invoice price. take invoice and subtract the current rebates and offer them that. i have bought my last two trucks this way. my current truck stickered for 42,300 and final price was 34,900, tax not included. i only recieved 2600 in rebates since it was early in the model year. nonetheless you should be able to get that truck for less money. shop around, create other options for yourself. if they realize you are serious and ready to buy it now they should come close to invoice. i told the dealership i bought my first truck(2000) if they didnt accept my offer i was going to buy a ford( i wasnt joking either!), and they said okay!

Be sure you check ALL costs to put in fog lights. Got my lb7 in dec. and I ordered it with the lights, dealer is a GOOD friend of mine and he said they just had to put a set of lights on a truck that came in with out them. Cost was over $600 by the time they were finished. Just be careful because thats a little crazy.

My 03 came w/o the fog light on an LS decore, GM has a kit for the lights, I think I paid $140.00 and I did not have a reflash with the tech II, they were plug and play. I can look up the part # if you need just pm me.

coyotekid-

Ask to see the dealer invoice. You have a right to see it (GM says so). The GMS and Supplier price is posted on the invoice. The % off varies from model to model so only use that as an estimate.

Smoky,

I believe GM only requires that you see the invoice / GMS price if you are buying at the GMS discount.

The dealer can show it to u if they want, nothing 'top secret'.

They want to move 04s so they should be happy to help u out.

Dmax Tim,

U R right - "nothing top secret" but I once dealt with a dealer (paying non-GMS) and asked to see the numbers. Salesman came back with them written down. I asked to see the actual #'s on the invoice and he wouldn't show me. Had that look on his face that he was just caught in a lie. Later found out from another dealer - exact same truck, that the #'s had been way off of the actual ones. Most dealers are more than willing to help you out - but there's always those few that..........UGH!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif

The stealer that I am working with says that only certain ones can participate in the GM In The Driveway program, I said - let me guess, you are not one of them. Sure enough, they claim that they cannot participate in the program. Last week they said they would have a hard time getting rid of this truck, this week they are "willing" to sell it to me for $500 over invoice but that is a special deal because they are in such high demand.

All participation is voluntary,

The dealers decide if they want to take the discounts off or not.

Dealer just called back and quoted me a price of $1100 over invoice on the same truck. I told him that he just offered it to me for $500 over, and now he went back to his first story of it being only if I ordered a new one. This guy flip flops more than John Kerry.

If you are anywhere in the SouthEast, contact Bruce Glueck Chevrolet in Jasper , Florida. Very small dealer but will sell at exact invoice. You might be able to get a 05 for the price of a 04. You'll have to wait 6-8 weeks as it will have to be ordered. At least you can get all that you want, no more or less. Check his website.
