if not, can one be added somehow?
its cold out (midwest) and my van is acting up again with only 5k miles. it losses power if more than half throttle is applied. no cel yet.
i dont want to have to change fuel filters every 2500 miles.

try running an additive like power service and stanadyne winter formaulas that prevent gelling. power service is readily available at walmart, truck stops, auto parts stores and TSC. Stanadyne is offered from online vendors and you'll need to go to www.stanadyne.com to get a qualified dealer in your area.
Whatever additive you put in, make sure there is no alcohol in it. These injectors need the lubricity levels in order to keep them operating as smoothely as possible.
Hope this helps you.

Yup the van has one stock. The cord was stuck way up under on the passenger side. We put it on a hoist to find it. Maybe ask the dealer to pull it out for you its a pain.

What you found is a block heater NOT fuel heater ... although I do think it should have one in the head of the fuel filter ... I know my 02 does... New Vans I don't know.

I got a fuel system/flow diagram from the stealer when I was converting my van for veggie use. As far as I can see from the diagram, and based on my hours of crawling under the van; I can not find a fuel heater anywhere. It would be great if it had one, cause that will mean I can run B100 year round.
The fuel systems diagram describes a Diesel Fuel Conditioning Module (DFCM) that has a priming pump and water sensor. However it does not describe it as having a heater. Upon openning this DFCM for filter replacement, I could not find a fuel heater.
As a matter of fact, I had fuel gelling issues when we had a cold snap. I was running B75 or higher and it gelled in the DFCM filter. This would not have happened if the DFCM had a fuel heater or a heater element of some kind.
I am now attempting to see to I can put a glow plug in this DFCM that will heat my fuel.

The trucks dont have one!
I'm using twice as much anti-gel as I ever had with my dodge and fords. I would say the trucks are dependant on having it. Mine has been giving me fits all winter with dead/low power, CELs and consuming ant-gel like its a free. This is ridiculous.
Its going to the dealer this week. If they dont know its broke they wont fx it.

I know the 02 do have a fuel heater ... see this link it is a doc from GM on how to test it and how to replace it if it don't work.

i would say get someone with a diablosport and look up the fuel temperature under the fuel data. that will tell you what temp it is and see if your heater is working or not.
i know that guys running the biodiesel were gelling up like crazy. i haven't run into this problem in the Carolinas yet. But I'm sure I will in Chicago and other places. I just use the antigelling.

We just went through a nasty cold spell and I had no issues with gelling fuel. I treat every tank of fuel with Synergyn or Stanadyne.
Even sitting for 2 days in the cold it fired up as usual.
Are you treating the fuel? I have been reading the ULSD is the problem but may be a guess at this point.
