Picking up a 2007 classic today w/duramax. Trading 04 2500Hd Duramax, was extremely satisfied. Any tips on break-in for new truck?

Oh boy...here we go...get ready for lot's of opinions.

Whatever you do, change the Alli filter and the rear end oil in the first few thousand miles.

Otherwise, either drive it hard or easy or moderate or tow with it or don't tow or drive only on the interstate or only in the city or .......

Break-in? What's that?

Drive it like you stole it, brother...

Every mechanic I've ever talked to says that the bigger the load you put on it early, the better it will perform...

That's the way I treated mine when I got it, and have had absolutely ZERO problems.

I wouldn't make any long runs at a constant RPM or tow heavy for the first 2-3000 miles. Plus the filter and diff fluid change mentioned by canadave. Other than that just enjoy the new ride.

Just drive it.You have a warranty if anything goes wrong.Dont baby it to much. That tranny will respond to your driving habits. The first 500 miles though fluxuate the speeds not a steady 55mph.I changed all my fluids the first 1000 miles. And a oil change for me every 3500 miles.enjoy your new ride and go play with the mods after you get some miles on her.Ive had mine since dec 28 2006.Know i have 10000 miles on her with no problems .

Go home and grab a good heavy duty log chain and tie it around your house, proceed by dragging it across the country-not too fast, keep it low and slow for first 500 miles or so then speed it up a little,i have broke in two d-maxes now and all i can tell you is these trucks were made for serious hauling-don't baby it, diesels don't break in easy-they were not meant to be driven back and forth to the grocery store (unless its uphill both ways and 1000 miles away) keep it gentle for the first 500 miles then let her have it- first d-max got to see 150k, the only issue i ever had with it was steering shaft noise----man i love these trucks!!!!!!!

I've been thinking of trading in my o4 2500 ext cab on a diesel. Did you get a decent trade price or did they kill you on it?

I like the idea of driving w/o the cruise control (varying RPM) for the first 500-1000 miles or so. Other than that just drive it like you normally would and do the 1st engine oil change at about 1/2 the recommended interval. Diesels love to be worked so no special break in is needed. Don't forget to change the axle fluid after the first 2000 miles or so. Try to have some towing on it before then. Good luck!

I dumped my engine oil at 500 and then again at 1000. And everything a bear said...

i have to agree with Deeresooner. My 04 LLY i never looked back, except to see the smoke behind me. drive it like you stole it. if anything should break, well within your warrantee. i am dooing with same with my 06. no issues on my 04.5 for over 170k miles now and my 06 has 5k miles and climbing. only had it a month and haven't been travelling much. my dad has my 04.5 now and is loving it.
