: Is there a "best" K3500 Duramax?

OK, I've decided to get a used diesel dually. I currently have a Ford F250 V10 truck, but I need something bigger. After much "research", I've decided that the Dodge isn't for me....cab not big enough, bed not long enough. The Ford 6.0 PSD has too many problems, so if I go Ford, it'll be a '99-2003 7.3 PSD. Problem is, I want a low milage truck...been hard to find the right 7.3 so far.
I've decided I need to consider the K3500 as well. I'm wondering if there are models of the Duramax that should be "steered clear of" like the Ford 6.0's are. Any input appreciated. CHRIS

All seem to have little quirks. The duramax, is basically (notice I said basically) the same basic engine since its consception so later years bugs worked out. Never been any major problems to my knowlege w/the d max like ford (bottom ends and head gaskets). Some lly's were ovverheaters some were not. Lbz has the "most refinements", just put or budget in for a lift pump and you will be happy.

I agree, a 2003 dually 7.3 w/a 5spd would take a serious look too. I wouldnt want fords auto in a tow rig, the allison in a dually is very good. Good tow trans, esp w/the grade brakeing and now 6spds to help keep r's downand economy up when unloaded.

it depens on your budget all the duramaxes are fine engines buy if you are looking for satalite radio or on star i would recommend a 2003-up

how are the dodge beds too short? all dually beds are 8 ft. also the 04 dodge cab is bigger then my 05 chev. unless your talking about the chev crew cabs, in that case i think the chev 4 doors are bigger then the dodge 4 doors.

He probably means that the mega cab has a bed too small, and 8 foot bed has a crew cab too small.

Just my take on it.

I've GOTTA have a crew cab for the family. The Dodge is just smaller than the rest. I had a Chevy Ext. Cab truck before my Ford, and couldn't believe how much bigger the Ford cab is.
Anyway....the "budget" isn't as much of an issue as the right truck at the right price. For instance, before I was serious about getting a new truck, I stumbled across an '06 Chevy crew cab 4wd Duramax diesel dually with 9k miles for $30k. I'de spend that much on a truck like that, but hope to spend closer to $25k.
