It was discussed recently on a different thread how the Juice/Attitude gradually adds power. During that discussion I had mentioned that I thought mine started kicking in at 150, but didn't really notice anything past that. That was with the Juice on level 1. Now I have been running at level 2 for the past few days and have really noticed what Max Power (I believe) was talking about.

The question is, does anyone know more about the gradual addition of power, i.e., what temperature it starts adding and in what increments? Good to know for me, since I have a very short drive to work and most mornings my truck barely reaches 150 before I have to shut it off.

Thanks,
Dennis

You better drive that old impala to work, daily short trips, only gettin to 150!? That has got to be hard on any engine!

I have an older modle but I think I only get an off or on deal and it turns on at 142 via tha attitude on my lb7

The power of the Juice is not supposed to KICK in until the temperature of the truck reaches 150 Degrees, no matter what level. As far as I know there are no increments. Edited by: BassinRVer

The attitude monitor shows 140 and when it hits 142 you can definatly tell it "kicks" in. Feel the power, change in sound. Definatly the juice is kicking when the attitude thinks its 142. I dont know if there are other smaller ups becuase I have never gotten on it untill the h2o is up to temp and i havent noticed any other "upping" of power in stages other than the 142 one. just what I have experienced with my 1rst gen attitude on my lb7

Even with my older LB7 juice/attitude I could feel it kick in at 142 but it was not at full power. I don't know exactly where full power kicked in but it sure didn't smoke until it was warmed right up.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

C'mon guys, can't you read my mind?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Thanks for the info.

I meant the truck that I drive to work. The Impala is at my Dad's house so I don't get to drive it ever http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif. The engine temp is what gets to 150. Plus I've only been to 145 mph in the Impala anyway, it had more not sure how much. . . maybe 160-165, but I chickened out long before I found it's limit, it was still pulling hard at 145, but reason got the better of me.

I can't feel anything or see smoke until about 150 degrees. It might come in earlier but I can't tell. It does feel full strength at 180 degrees, but I thought someone might have some solid info on it.

Ratlover, what level are you running? I couldn't tell any increment in level 1, but there is definitely an increment in level 2. I'll probably shift to level 3 in the next day or two, but it will stay there until SCIII goes in next summer when I move.

Thanks,

You mean there are levels beside 5?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

May be the lb7's or older boxes had an off or on approach?

Dennis, you know I'm nuts, but here's my $0.02....

I can feel my regular Juice come on in two distinct stages. Right below 185 (the major tick mark between 160 and 210) there is a "bump" followed by a less obvious one at 190 maybe.

I've always wondered if it was timing first then fuel, or maybe an increment of both in each. There is a long hill on the interstate about a mile from the house where the truck is lightly pulling. When the Juice comes in, if I hold my foot flat steady at 75 MPH, the boost goes up by a couple psi. I haven't watched the EGT come to think of it. The second "bump" is not quite so noticeable but after that point it wants to go go go.

When I'm feathering the throttle going down the other side, I can definitely hear the timing.

Anyway, I know that's not the newfangled J/AT but it may tell you something about Edge's programming strategy.

I should have my HJ/AT sometime next week and I'll see if it does the same.

I feel like mine is two stages, too. The first stage is somewhere around 150. Second stage is 180. I may be rounding because I like round numbers. Could be anywhere in between. When I'm driving home from work in the afternoon, as soon as I hit 150 on the edge, I feel what I believe is a difference in exhaust note (a little lower tone and sounds 'meaner'), and I start getting a little smoke out the exhaust. Then, when I hit 180, I really feel like the engine comes alive. Really pulls, and if I roll into the throttle at lower RPM, a lot more smoke billows out.

nwpadmax,

Do you feel anything or see any smoke at all under 185? Seems like I don't feel much, although some extra power, at the 150 point, but it really doesn't pull hard until the temp hits 180 (all temps by Attitude), but I do start to see soot from the exhaust at 150.

LB7 and LLY tunes may be different, but from what Max Power said, it seems to be very similar.

The guage on the dash and the displayed temperature on the Attitude are different as well. Seems like the Attitude is lower for engine temperature by about 10-20 degrees.

The EGT is the opposite, thought, with the Attitude reading about 50 degrees higher than the Autometer Ultra-Lite. Boost gage same story, although I could account for that with the longer gauge line. My Autometer boost gauge reads about a pound or two (below 15 psi) below the Attitude. At higher boost (although VERY hard to tell, as things are tending to get exciting so the eyes are more on the road), the Attitude and Autometer seem to track fairly close.

This is all pretty interesting, but I don't know if it will be of benefit in the end, unless you plan on racing someone with coole temps or are at the track and let the truck cool off too much.

Thanks,

I have to agree with baimpala on the temps (Attitude display). Seems like 160 is the magic number for the power and smoke comes a little better when it's a bit warmer than that. Anything less that 160 is so-so.

I have a short drive to/from work and had a possible smoke recipient a few weeks ago but couldn't do it because of the engine temps below smoking range. Really sucked. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

I heard from an Edge rep that there was a temp. curve at 171. I have been watching my attitude in the morning and I can really see it come alive after the engine hits that 171 mark. On the highway every morning I feel/hear a little surge when the engine reaches that point, then its time to pass a lot of people and soot up their convertibles!
