I know the owner of Boulder Engineering.

The Boulder Diesel Scrubber works in addition to the primary fuel filter, and does not take the place of
the primary filter.

Take a look at the technical details and FAQ here:

Here are testimonials, including the Diesel Dept.
at Citrus College

Boulder-Dash http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif But seriously, this device acts as a cyclonic separator IMHO, it would take out large heavy particles. I don't think it would help much taking out the suspended <10 micron stuff. Again IMHO.. Just an uneducated opinion....

Wouldn't it be a good idea to remove the large,
heavy particles before they hit your 2 micron
filter?

Ideally maybe, but the Nicktane filter is also set up this way (Pre-OEM). This is a quality setup, and the big CAT filters aren't expensive at all, under 20 bucks. After I install the Nicktane kit next weekend, I'll change the factory filter a thousand miles later and then not touch it for a while (probably 15 or 20 thousand), but I'll change the CAT out every 5-8k.
