My vacuum pump on my '95 sounds like a coffee can full of marbles. When working properly is the Vacuum pump silent?Should I replace it or remove it? From my research on this forum it controls the EGR and the wastegate only. Cost up here is about $150.00 CDN ($110.00 US) Advise please. Dan

Dan,

Replace or remove ASAP! The bearing is going out and mechanical failure will result. If you buy a new one, ask for lifetime warranty with the antisipation that if anything goes wrong with it from now on you can exchange it for another no expense. If you deceide to remove it and run heath's turbo master or your own, go for it! The belt is 2" shorter without the vac pump.Edited by: quantum mechanic

If you go the TurboMaster route then you don't have other components for the vaccum sytem to change as they fail. The belt that work with out the pump is for a 1993, just make sure the part store isn't giving you the same belt as the 1994-2000.

92-93(w/o vacuum pump) use the same belt as 96 and up (w/vacuum pump). 94 and 95 use a slightly longer belt with the vacuum pump. The number should end in 1010 for most brands. (original ends in 1020)

See the other post here for the whole number or just ask for a 93 belt.

That belt won't work on a '95.

Isn't it kind of tight on yours too? Going by the difference in the belts between '93 and '95, I would have said that you needed a #0601000.

The correct belt for a '95 without the vacuum pump is #0601010

i thought it was too tight at first as well, but after i ran it for 5 minutes, the tensioner settled in and the belt stretched out a bit. the marks on the tensioner are right where they are supposed to be.

I took home a new (rebuilt) one and pulled off the old one. I found that the 1 bolt that holds the air conditioner pump bracket near the vacuum hose on the vacuum pump was missing, and the long bolt that goes through both pieces of the bracket was very loose. I pulled the pulley off the vacuum pump and tried to install it on the new one. However the shaft on the new one had been machined smaller, and had no taper. Now it's 8:00pm and I need to go to work at 5:00am. Well I put the old one back on, and installed and tightened missing bolts. The truck sounds quieter, however I can still hear the pump when it is idling. Should these pumps be quiet when idling or should you hear it? I am on my way to the parts store to chew someone a new one. Advise thanks Dan

Vacuum pump should run quiet as a church mouse, and make no sound at all.

I pulled my pump off today and the belt really does a lot of wipping when the AC comes on. Could be the tensionor causing the problem.

LanduytG,

I know this is a silly question, but did you buy a shorter serpentine belt when you removed the pump?

Has any body tried one of the old 92-93 spring loaded actuators on their electronics? I've got a spare here I'm going to try, see how she stacks up for boost levels.
