Howdy ALL,

I have not posted in a long time, and i have read back all the pages I could before posting this question. I have seen alot of ads for the hypertech programmer and i know most of you guys have the juice. But is there anything really wrong with the hypertech unit? The price seems nice, and i don't need all that extra power, i just want something to play around with. I have a factory straight pipe, muffler and cat cut off, and a stage 2 air pipe. Any sugestions about the hypertech unit would be great. Thanks and keep it hick.

Dude.......man........they are like...archaic. Call John Kennedy (http://www.kennedydiesel.com), a sponcer here on the site, and get yourself a Diablo programmer. The new unit is really nice. John can walk you through it once you get it.

Call, and listen.......You will thank me way, way, way down the road. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I have had both Predator and hypertech. Take a look at my test.

I am under the impression that the Predator can be used on only one vehicle. That is why I bought the Hypertech. If I ever sell my duramax, I'll put the programmer on e-bay. I am generally satisfied with the Hypertech and can tell a difference in performance relative to stock but I do not have any other performance mods installed.

I look at it this way. For GM to replace the motor it costs between 10 and 14k. I think that most of us paid an avg. of 35k for our trucks. I don't know about you...... but if 300 or hell 500 bucks makes a real big difference ....... then I've bought too much truck already and should not be programming it to begin with. However, if money is tight and I'm still hell bent on a tuner... I would get the best thing out there. I would not want any "after affects" when the warrenty is up.

BTW............. is the turbo covered under the 100k "engine" warrenty?

I currently have the hypertech and have great luck with it. It has been on the truck for about 9 months and have had no problem with it. Like any "addiction" I have modified my truck and am ready to step up to the juice/attitude. Dont buy the hypertech if you know you will regret it, but if you are just looking for the 90 hp without any frills, the hypertech is OK. By the way, ill sell my hypertech for 200 usd if anyone is interested.

I went ahead and bought the hypertech last week. I have it set on the 70hp setting and love it. I like how i don't feel the power until i get on the pedal. It seems to give power at the top of the power band, but I am unsure if all products do this or not. I now ask everyone who has been kind enough to reply to my post and have the unit if it is safe to run the 90hp setting. I have heard from a friend who works at a chevy house that the 90hp setting burned up all the injector tips on a dmax. He advised me to not run the 90hp without getting gauges and less restrictive exhaust. He is not a tech but he has the same truck so keeps an eye on what's wrong with them when they do come in. I don't think that i need the power of the 90 for driving around town, but I do run across people in other brands of popular diesel trucks that just need to be put in there place at red lights. I live in a "hick" town so the people that I would want to run normally are pulling cattle trailers or have hay in the back of the bed. Everyonce in a while i'll find a fellow redneck that will run. I even ran a guy with a grandprix. I think i surprised him because we both hit the green at the same time, and i peeled across the intire intersection, he proceed to hit about 100 down the rest of the road. By the time i reached the next light (about a mile) he wasn't to be found. Thanks again for all the help.

Prycer,

As with any chip on the dmax, when you add over 60-70 HP, intake/exhaust mods and an EGT gauge are a good investment. The intake mod can be as simple as opening up the airbox, and replacing the stock muffler does a lot to reduce restriction. About the only "hard" part is tapping a manifold for the EGT probe and even this is not all too difficult, many here have posted how.

With those mods you can run at the 90HP level all day. Just keep an eye on the Allison, others on this forum have posted that the Hypertech's power curve isn't exactly "allison friendly".

Good luck!

I have the afe 2. And the muffler came off before my licence plates came in. I hope to find a shaddy enough muffler shop to cut my cat off again! so should i continue to run the 70hp until i get the egt gauge? or should i be ok? I've been watching the tranny temp very closely since I put the hypertech on and it's still where it allways has. Still haven't found a diesel to play with yethttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif but a riceburningsob didn't wanna play tonighthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif. Thanks.
