Guys in keeping things simple, does anyone see any huge problems using one of these as a pre-OEM filter? They also have a water separator integrated into the filter. Thanks.

I'm not trying to be funny here, but that setup looks just like the setup I have on my oil fired furnaces. Actually kinda neat....

What are the specs on the filter? ... i.e microns and efficiency...

The filters most of us have been adding are 2 micron high efficiency (>98%).

Saw one of these on an oil burner heater and did a little research and found it to have a 35 or 10 micron filter (depending which one) at something like 47 gpm. I had the though that went like this... When I considered the basic function of the filter and not the high-speed aparatus around the element, they all do the same thing - filter stuff. Just really got to wondering.

Marc,

Just a guess but the 10 and 35 micrcon ratings are probably nominal or 50% efficiency. This filter would be OK for a pre filter but IMHO you would still need a secondary 2 micron filter if you wanted to improve the OE system. For example I have a 30 micron Stanadyne FM100 pre filter and a Post OEM 2 micron Mega filter.

If you like the set-up. maybe you can cross reference a filter that can give you more filtering power. I have a little restriction guage on mine which tells me when to change the filter..Just a thought

Yeah guys, I was contemplating something like this as a pre-filter only. I have to. I just don't have the money tree out back. Right now a 35 micron filter would catch the rocks and sticks. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif But a little cross-referencing might do the job.
