: How about a TBI gas fuel pump for a lift pump?

I have got the 6.2 sitting in the 1990 K5 Blazer I am converting to diesel. Instead of dropping the fuel tank to remove the TBI fuel pump I was wondering if I might just use it as the lift pump. I am told that the TBI system runs at about 15 psi. I suppose it is regulated to that pressure. I was wondering if 15 psi being supplied to the IP would be bad for the IP. Hopefully the electronic pump would have no trouble pumping diesel vs. gas. Any feedback?

I think the diesel will ruin it........

Maybe not.........

15 lbs supply pressure would definitely have an effect on your IP, its internal advance system is calibrated for consisent 5lbs supply, upping the supply will raise your transfer pressure and your advance will move faster, maybe too fast. TBI pumps don't move as much volume as your IP will require, since a Diesel recycles some of it back to the tank and TBI's don't, which means your supply pressures will drop at high RPMs. Doesn't really matter, GMC '02 is right, your pump won't move very much diesel before it quits.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I get to drop 2 tanks. One out of the donor suburban and the other from the K5. I wonder if the tanks might interchange? Have not looked at them. If not, hopefully there will be a relatively simple way to replace the fuel pump with a tube.
