Hello everyone,
I just purchased my truck one month ago and for some reason, it take a while to shift from 5th to 6th gear when its cold. Its fine during normal operating temperatures, only when its cold is when I notice it.
I'm not sure if this is abnormal or not, but if someone knows, it would be much appreciated to obtain any information on this.
Thank you,
Pete

No worries, its normal Pete. :) The transmission will limit upper gears based on trans fluid temp (if its cold), in order to keep engine RPM's higher and thus help the engine heat up faster.

If the truck is cold it will shift at higher RPM's to help warm it up. It's called heter performance mode. Do a search and you will find a fair bit of info in other threads.

Thank you for answering my questions, I was a little worried, but now I'm not.
Thanks again!

Put your tow haul button on so the tork/converter locks in for a mile at start up on the road it will run faster and fluid flows throughout tranny to push it up for better shifts. I've been doing this for 2 months because of cold weather and my; tranny is flawless on running and shifts. This Allison is so nice compared to the Dodge and Ford tranny options I tested before my LBZ came home over July.

not exactly. ;)
the trans will actually generate LESS heat in lockup because there is no slip between the pump and turbine/stator, reducing friction and reducing heat generated.
plus, even if you do press tow/haul, the TCM will not let the converter lock up until fluid temp is above 80 degrees.
