I have been thinking lately if it would be helpful to monitor the ZF transmission temp while pulling heavy loads. I've got a 2 gauge "A" pillar pod and would change it for a 3 gauge. I'm not sure the information would be helpful or not, I'm looking for your opinions.
Another questiion; where would be the best place to access the tranny to place the thermal probe?
Thanks,

I had seen some time ago a kit designed for a temp probe on the ZF. It consisted of a plate that replaced one of the PTO covers. However, I cannot recall where I saw this kit. If it becomes critical, post here and I will take some time to dig through my archives.

No problmes yet, at least none that I'm aware of. I was just thinking if it would be a good idea to monitor the ZF's temp while towing. Also curious if anyone else is contemplating the same thing.
Thanks for the input.

There is another thread somewhere here that talks about tranny coolers. The stealer installed one on mine and I still have a hard pedal problem. Trying to get CPMac to sell me a new flywheel/clutch kit and I think that will fix my problem.
Anyhow, I don't think these manny s have as much heat problem as allison, but don't know for sure. Do know the clutch/flywheel is a much bigger risk (problem). The stealer said I could mount a temp sensor in the PTO plate where the hoses for the cooler and slave cylinder are attached.
I have thought about a tranny guage also. Autometer makes a pod that wraps around the steering column. I also saw a pod for the passenger side somewhere . . . .

I have the guage already just havent put in the sender yet. how much oil does the ZF hold?
I've thought of adding a temp gauge to see what temp the trans gets with a hard pedal. It not be a good indicator but you won't know until you try.
