I have a new Escort 8500 in the box but am having second thoughts on this purchase. Seems all the staters are using instant on radar now. Will these detectors give you any early warning if you aren't first in line?

Better off with, than without in my mind. There's still a good chance you'll get a warning when he zaps a guy or two in front of you.

I have an 8500 & it works very well. Most of the time, it will pick up the instant on radar from the cars in front of you (as long as you are not 1st in line!) http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif All things considered, I like & use mine in the same circumstances that you are talking about. Instant on is VERY hard to beat, but any warning is better than none at all! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

I agree!

They say you cant beat Laser but I know that I have beat it. I was doing 85+ in a 70mph trying to catch up with a group we were caravanning with. (Wide open area going across S. Dakota).

If you have an Escort you know the attention getting noise it makes when Laser is detected. I hit the breaks when it went off and cruised right by the LEO. Got a dirty look from him but that was it.

If nothing else you will lower you mph when hit.
