Eric/Sid...or whoever has access to GM build info,

I don't see much info on exhaust brakes for the 2004+ LLY Duramax. I assume that's because the aftermarket guys haven't had a chance to complete design and test of the LLY configuration (the LB7 did seem to have plenty of aftermarket support).

Still, there's always the concern about the warranty when you add this kind of stuff (even though I think anyone who tows heavy in 5-8% grade country should forget that and put one on). Exhaust brakes work and should be an option on any vehicle that is being rated to pull the kinds of loads that GM (and Ford and Dodge) is beginning to rate our trucks.

My dealer told me sometime back that his MDT rollbacks do have a factory exhaust brake on his Duramax's (which were LB7s), but that there is no such option on the 2500/3500 Duramax trucks.

I don't really understand that reasoning from GM, so here's my question(s):

a. Do the new LLY MDTs have the exhaust brake option from the factory?

b. If so, who makes it?

c. What prevents the factory exhaust brake from being hooked up to a Duramax LLY in a 2500/3500 configuration if we order the parts?

Thanks.

a.The MDT has exhaust brake option

b. Meritor Wabco..

c. I don't know. Just a guess, but It could be something as simple as the design of the flange on the downpipe (?). Probably better to look at a Pac Brake , Banks,or BD exhaust brakes for our trucks. I agree with what you say -it should be an option.

Zip,

Thanks for the information - with all the experimentation that folks are doing on our Duramax configurations, I'm just surprised no one has tried to adapt a factory-engineered solution to an exhaust brake option for our trucks (although I'll probably end up opting for one of the aftermarket versions when they come along...).

I'm just personally amazed that GM hasn't addressed this issue for at least the 3500 series. The loads these things are being advertised to pull for the RV market, farmers, and heavy machinery operators beg for a factory offered exhaust brake option. I know I would have bought one without a second thought if it was offered when I bought my truck...
