I came across a post to day and it said that you have to retorque head studs every 5K to 7K miles. So my question is

How often do you have to retorque head studs?

Seems nobody has an answer.

What I'm going to do with Casper is to break in the engine, then dyno tune it, and then check the studs. After that we will leave it alone.

It is a severe PITA to check the head studs.

I've heard that re-torquing may not be necessary. Who know's? has anyone had a gasket failure related to initial only torque?

I have also heard that a step up torque to 125 ft/lbs is the majic number on the ARP's. Also it would not hurt to use a good wrench like the Snap-On TechWrench electronic.

My original motor had no problems after 7,000 hard miles with considerable time at 60 psi. I've never been into an LLY, but the LB7 is a major PITA to retorque the studs nuts. You have to take most of the fuel system off which opens it to contamination not to mention the fuel leaks that can occur under the valve cover. Until someone can say's theres been problems, I'm not going to worry about it. Just my opinion.

I would retorque once after a 5 or 6 good heating/cooling cycles and leave it at that. Heres something to think about..... Do you ever hear of anyone pulling the oilpan and retorquing main studs? I'm willing to bet your answer is no........
