: Dyno Results ?
gmccall 08-23-2004, 11:46 AM I was hoping for better results.
I dynoed the truck Saturday and was told that I may need to try a Mustang Dyno. The dyno only read 2 out of 5 trys and the results were 368 hp and 575 + - tq. On the rollers we let the tranny shift into 4th at about 1600 RPM, hit Tow Haul and floored it. Within a few ( and I mean about 2) seconds Truck was already at 3300 + - and we had to let off. Dyno shop said it might be slipping on rollers. Truck sounded very good. Its just that the minute they got in it they had to get out. Truck runs to good on the street and track to only get the few results that they gave. (see signature). Tranny does not slip on the street when I run it hard. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
For the record Quad stealth was on 215 with Attitude on 3. I was caught by supprise, and shop was driving, so I did not see any Attitude readings.
Has any one experienced this at the dyno ? Edited by: gmccall
Camstyn 08-23-2004, 11:53 AM Those are bad numbers, I got higher than that with just the regular juice/Attitude alone. Sounds like it wasn't strapped down tight enough?
gmccall 08-23-2004, 12:00 PM I hope your right.
Our video does show the truck moving around a little on the rollers. I may try again with some weight in the bed and bring them some more tie downs.
I was hoping to line the new shop and dyno for a diesel GTG, but the dyno is going to have to work. The cars, mostly cameros and Trams Ams etc. had no problems.
Camstyn 08-23-2004, 12:05 PM Usually you'll get a bit of tire smoke if you're spinning on the rollers, watch the video carefully.
BMDMAX 08-23-2004, 12:30 PM Something was very, very wrong with the dyno setup. I am assuming it was a dynojet you were running on?
A good high 400 to 500 hp run on my truck on the dynojet takes about five to six seconds for the sample and the my mid 700 run took three to four seconds for the sample.
If you can post the vid I am sure we could tell more by watching it.
ratlover 08-23-2004, 12:35 PM If you let it shift to 4th and then wood it it may be downshifting on you?
When I ran mine the operator had to run it up to 2100 or 2200 or so rpm in 4th and then wood it otherwise it would downshift.
If you have a tech 2 or something comanding a 4th gear lock up then this aint an isse.
Something aint right because(no offense) those numbers suck unless you are just running a regular juice or something small.
BTW and this drove me nuts.....the dyno operator kept freaking out and kept saying he didnt think he could dyno it since the trany was kicking down. Guess he has never been around an auto that downshiftedhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif, just had to keep the r's high enough were it wouldnt and life was good.
Edit: I got him to run it in th with OD locked out and shift up normally through the gears, once it shifted into 4th he could decellerat a bit IIRC but had to make sure he kept the r's a bit over 2100 IIRCEdited by: ratlover
DavidTD 08-23-2004, 12:58 PM Just FYI - Brandon your run was a total of 3.4 seconds. About 2 seconds on NOS. How does 80mph to 119 in 2 seconds flat sound?

BMDMAX 08-23-2004, 01:48 PM It was smoking fast on the squeeze. I think we were grinning like a couple of fatcats after that pass. I was trying to time it from the videos but I should have just went to the source! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Greg, it is hard to find people that can run these trucks consistently on the dyno. Believe me, David knows how to get it done. It just might be a little too far for your dyno day though.
gmccall 08-23-2004, 02:24 PM Maybe there is someone with my time slips and same equipped truck that could chime in with their dyno results. That should give me some indication. My trap speed of 80mph in the 1/8th mile indicates 500hp for a 6500 vehicle, so I am a little confused. My posts several weeks ago said I should be putting out 450 +- to run my times.
I have an 2002 2500HD EC SB 4x4. Allison tranny with Suncoast Stage II. I run in 4 wheel drive and get 1.90 + - 60fts, though my best 60 ft was an 1.88 so far. Tires are 265x75 16 Goodrich KO tires.
Anyone have dyno numbers to share with my setup and time slips ? Edited by: gmccall
BassinRVer 08-23-2004, 02:52 PM Greg,
Your it sounds like your TC was not locking up. DO you look at the attitude to see if it was locked up?
BassinRVer 08-23-2004, 02:55 PM After rereading this, I am sure that your TC was not locking up. Are you sure you had it in T/H mode?
BassinRVer 08-23-2004, 02:57 PM I reread some more. You said you hit the T/H mode in the middle of your run, so I am sure the TC was not locking up. Next time leave it in T/H from the beginning of the run.Edited by: BassinRVer
gmccall 08-23-2004, 03:07 PM Robert, the shop was doing the driving so I do not know what Attitude was reading. I did see the driver (Sean formerly of MMT) go through the motion of pushing Tow haul.
I will try to get some answers before I dyno again. The name of the shop is Fastech and it is located in Balch Springs, just south of Mesquite Rodeo. Sean co-owns this shop now and co-owned the shop in Royce City that all the DFW guys dynoed at last fall.
Hired Gun 08-23-2004, 03:09 PM Yep Craig Mc. Dynoed mine in Feb up in Indy! We started with it in T/H and OD off. It ran 360 hp all three runs. Dead even. Thats just with the mild 90 hp juice.
ratlover 08-23-2004, 04:19 PM it will lock up at wot regardless if the th is on or not.....
DavidTD 08-23-2004, 06:13 PM I prefer to run in 5th, especially with the speed limiter removed.
If you do a fast roll on the throttle at 70 mph, it should not downshift and give you reliable and repeatable numbers. Your stack I have seen between 460 and 525.
When calculating HP on 1/8 mile speeds, the torque of these trucks coupled with a 4x4 launch will have the calculators off a bit. By the time you get out of the traps and the aerodynamics of our "bricks" take over it balances out in most cases.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif I like the sound of that David. It sure would be good to get it on paper though.
I could have shown the Cameros and Transams a thing or two. I still won torque. Should have seen the onlookers scatter that were near my tail pipe when I dynoed ( even on a 2 second burst). http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
