: what kind of deal on 8.1
clc19chase 02-06-2007, 04:35 PM I know where a 2002 8.1/allison 4x4 reg cab LS 3500 dually is with 61,000 miles is. I can get it for $16,400. truck is very clean and hasnt had a gooseneck hitch in it. Is this a decent deal? Also at 2000 RPM's it runs right 62 - 63 MPH and 2250 is dead on 70 mph. Is it the 3.73 or 4.10 rear end?
ncskeety 02-06-2007, 04:48 PM If it's a one owner, he has all records, it is indeed very clean and it's exactly what you want - I'd say he's in the ballpark. As for the gear ratio, I'd say 3.73 unless the Allison is much different from reg. transmission (don't remember the model). My 04' 6.0 w/ 4.10 tachs about 2500 @65mph.
Duromax04 02-06-2007, 04:52 PM I am not sure if those trucks ever had a 3.73 with the 8.1, but if you look on the glove box sticker, look for GT5=4.10 and GT4+3.73. Sounds like 4.10's to me.
I have never bought a dually, so I don't know if that is a good deal or not. You might try looking on Ebay, and Auto Trader and see what they have on there.
mtchevrolet 02-06-2007, 05:02 PM My 03 8.1/Ally has 4:10's. It runs about 2200-2300 at 70. 2000 at 65. This is on a 2wd ext cab. I think the 480LE may be geared different. I had an 01 6.0 and it would run 2500 at 65.
John DiMartino 02-07-2007, 02:40 PM I have 245 tires here,2000RPM is 71mph with 3.73. Id say its got 4.10's. I think you should be able to bargain a little bit, since it is a reg cab,i bought my crew cab for mid 14's back in November, its an 01 GMC SLT 2500HD crew, loaded ,leather,in good shape, needed a few things, not much, had 76K miles.
bigblocksrock 02-07-2007, 08:55 PM Sounds like it has 4.10. Have a 2001 GMC Sierra 8.1 Allison w/3.73. Turns 2000rpm @70mph. I'd try to bargain a little bit. Just bought mine about 4 months ago w/44000 miles on it plus it was a crew cab and near new condition for $16,500. Hope this helps.
clc19chase 02-21-2007, 11:25 PM anymore opinions, thanks
John DiMartino 02-21-2007, 11:32 PM Yes,get him to lower the price! Its too high for a reg cab truck.
Chevy2500HD8.1 02-22-2007, 02:13 AM I know I am going to get crap for this but here it goes. I know for a fact that I have 4.10's. I run 285, I have changed the speddo, I have checked my speedo using two diffrent GPS units. I have checked my tach gauge accuracy. The reason I have checked all those things is because I have been given crap before for stating that with my cruise set at 70 miles per hour, with the 4.10's, I run at exactly 2000 rpm.
hemisareslow 02-22-2007, 02:34 AM With 285's and a 4.10 rear end you have basically cut the gearing back to 3.73...or in a pretty close ballpark...

I have the same setup on my Dodge/Cummins 285/75 tires,4.10 axles, and .69 OD ratio. 2000RPM is 70 mph on the button. You wont get any crap from me :D

The only reason I mentioned getting crap was because it past posts, and people I talk with they always want to argue that fact. I was just excpecting it again.
clc19chase 02-22-2007, 08:52 PM Thanks for the info guys. the truck does have the 4:10 rearend and I finally purchased the truck today for $15,200 or $15,900 out the door with a 4500 mile warranty included.
John DiMartino 02-23-2007, 11:12 AM Congrats on your purchase! Im sure you'll love it.
