I am at the last step before getting the VIN cleared on my non-lux navigation unit. My 2007 Classic does not have the VSS wire at the head unit connector. I still need help locating a pin socket where the VSS wire /plug connects to the head unit. I have found the pin for the midbec connection. The dealer is no help and will not wire the unit.

Thanks for any help.

Hello, if you use the search function you will find a post with photos, pin numbers etc. and all the good stuff. The wire you are hunting for is located on the back of the instrument cluster and has to be run to the head unit. I believe it is a light green wire, and it will have to be tapped, and run to a new pin.......also Ben will know.

Thanks for the reply. I have tapped into the midbec pin for the VSS using a 280 metripak pin socket. I need the pin socket for the connector at the head unit. I have done searches, but cannot find that pin terminal part number. All the dealer says he can do is order an entire harness.

If you find the pin terminal part no, please post it. I got mine working by using a Scotchlock tap into the Green wire with white strip coming out the rear of the speedo cluster. The other end of the wire, I just pushed it on over the correct pin on the back of the radio, through the harness plug.

It has worked ever since install, but I'd still like to have the pin terminal, too.

Look at this diagram (http://duramax.onlinedesk.net/navinstall/radio_harness.html)for the location where the VSS wire should go: Position E.

I couldn't locate any pin connectors, so I did it the redneck way. I removed the blue retaining clip that held down pins A thru F. Then I jammed the stripped end of my VSS wire in the space next to the pin at E (I think the wire at E is purple). Then I put the blue retaining clip back on, this compresses my VSS wire against the E pin. Then I reinstalled the connector to the radio. So far, the connection is good.

You can tell if the VSS is connected when the address input screen blanks out once you get over about 5 mph.

If I can change my destination while moving does that mean my VSS is not connected?

If you can change your destination your vss wire is not hooked up. This also locks out some other functions.

Is that to say I will have more or will lose more functions with it connected? Is the only downside to not connecting it the speed sensing to assist the GPS?

Wirelessly posted (palm tx: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D050; Blazer/4.3) 16;320x448)

With the VSS hooked up, you can only change addresses/destinations while stopped (safety issue). But the gps/map screen is more accurate, much faster response, at least on mine. Esp when using voice nav, for distance to turn/exit.

The Part number is 12089649. I found the part number on a thread at GM-Truck. Ordered them yesterday. They came today and I just finished the installation. Everything works great. The Nav is off a bit because my tires are larger stock. Once I reprogram the computer for the larger tires, it should be dead on. I am running 285/75/16's.
